Current Rezound owner - Worth the free upgrade?

I have been an HTC user since the original DINC, had a DINC 2, and have been a Rezound user since the $99 offer a while back. I've regretted the move to the Rezound since. Now that Verizon is doing a "Free DNA" offer, I don't want to jump on another sale just to regret using up my upgrade. Is the DNA more reliable and better with battery life than the Rezound? I've seen posts about charging issues and SIM card issues, but I'm not sure if this is as regular a problem as the dropped connectivity and battery drain of the Rezound. I also don't know if I should just scrap HTC products at this point and look for something else.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I went from droid incredible to rezound to DNA. I absolutely love this phone. I have not had one SIM card issue. Battery life decreased a bit after the last o.t.a...factory reset fixed that!! Could have jumped to at&t for the One...but Love the size and wireless charging over the One.

sent from either nexus 7 or DNA

I just ordered the DNA an hour ago. Upgrading from a Droid X :)

I think the SIM issue was fixed with an update recently? Looking forward to getting the phone!

I also went Incredible, Rezound and then DNA. This is the best phone I've used. I've tried out all the other options before getting the DNA a few months ago and nothing compared to it.

There was an update that was supposed to fix this issue but ended up giving the issue to people who didn't already have it and making the problem worse for some. For me, the update worked and I haven't had a single problem with the SIM card. Wi-Fi however is a different story...

Edit: spelling

What's your Wi-Fi issue? I use about 4gigs of data right now because I keep my wi-fi off at all times to try and eek out any bit of battery life I can. I figured if I turned wi-fi on, I'd cut that usage in half. But if Wi-Fi is unreliable, that's not going to help.

I personally have never seen a sim card error, or any other issue honestly. Never had the phone freeze or even hiccup. Its been pretty much perfect for me so far. A buddy of mine got one the same day and he has the sim card error alot oddly enough. Ive told him to swap the sim cards and give that shot, he hasnt done that yet though.

Out of curiosity, how many people here can get by with the 1gig data package? I'm currently grandfathered in on an unlimited data plan and don't know if I'm ready to give it up.

I have a 2 gig plan for 2 smartphones in my family. I use about 200-400 meg a month. I was lucky enough to have wifi at old job along with wifi at home at all times. So thats the main reason I use so little. I dont stream anything so my usage is pretty limited overall.

Its 4 gigs for and my wife with two DNAs last month we right to the limit. This month was 3.

My husband and I are on a share everything plan of 6gbs that we reach monthly, even with me being a stay at home mom on WiFi and him not being able to use his phone a majority of the day from 5am-6pm. On a different note:

The DNA is a great phone. It is fast, has a gorgeous display, capable camera, remarkable battery life for its size, and has a great feel in the hand. However, and it is a big however, the phone is not without its problems.

The WiFi is, at best; unreliable. This was an original issue that was fixed with an update and then became reoccuring after the new OTA. Signal dropping and disconnection is inevitable for me. Disconnection not so much, but I can watch my signal play musical chairs.

I have gotten the SIM error twice, had the SIM replaced on the first, and had it again two weeks after getting the new SIM. I have not had this issue since, even with the ota, however, I do notice my phone "preparing SIM" at some odd times.

My phone has also locked up on me twice. Once a few days after getting it, and again a few weeks ago. The first time it required a hard reboot, the second, it restarted itself. I do not know what caused this.

Another thing I have started to notice is that the browser will sometimes close itself while browsing.

Just recently, I had an issue where my front facing camera would hang on the countdown and would cause me to miss a shot.

Many of these issues are not occuring on all devices, and even with them it really is a great phone; for free, it can't be beat.

I've had my Rezound since Nov 11 and really, really liked it. I didn't experience much in the way of connectivity (other than occasional Bluetooth issues) but live in a major metro area, maybe that's why. I'm a heavy user and the battery life was dismal but I got used to it; charger in the car, dock with spare battery slot at work, swapping batteries mid-afternoon most days, charger at home, etc.

I received a new DNA as an insurance replacement recently and I'm absolutely loving it.

I've found the battery life to be dramatically better than my Rezound, in part due to the wireless charger on my desk at work that makes it so easy to just set my DNA down in between uses and have it automatically charging, and in part because it's easier on the battery, maybe due to the integrated LTE on the SOC. I left work with an 80% charge yesterday and easily made it to the end of the day.

The 720p screen on my Rez was a prime selling point (along with the $49 Costco deal!), but the screen on the DNA is gorgeous...unbelievably sharp, excellent color accuracy, good viewing angles, and way easier to see in sunlight than my Rez.

The 5" size is fantastic, and with my big hands I can still (mostly) run it one-handed. It's not quite as easy to hold as the Rez, but it's lighter and thinner and actually fits better in my front pants pocket. The look and feel of the DNA is a step up from the Rez, it feels like a much more premium phone (always felt like the Rez was aesthetically schizophrenic; smooth and nice on the front, chunky and kinda cheap looking from the back).

I'd loaded up my Rez pretty good, and lately it had been getting a bit...less than smooth from time to time. The DNA is completely lag-free, fast, responsive in every aspect. Don't know if it's the quad-core processor, the 2g of RAM, Project Butter, HTC's optimizations, or all four and don't really care, but this thing is smooooth...living up to it's testing as one of the fastest quads around.

Speaking of JB (which I fear the poor Rez will never see), it's a genuine improvement over ICS - I'm really liking Google Now, the actionable items in the task bar are great. Not sure if this is a JB thing or what but I was totally amazed that, as soon as I logged into my Google account on my new DNA, it started to automatically restore all my apps...that's never happened before! This next would be a minor point for most but I've begged Audible to code a lockscreen widget for years without luck and viola...here it is, enabled natively in JB.

Software wise, I actually really liked Sense 3.6 but I'm finding 4+ to be a refreshing change; a little bit less flashy but still unique and enjoyable. The fact that Beats now works on almost everything is huge to me, my phone is also my media player (music, audiobooks, Netflix, YouTube, etc) and I loved the Beats sound on my Rez music player but it rankled that it didn't work anywhere else.

So far the only downside I've seen is the limited storage. In almost 2 years with the Rez, I'd used up about half of it's combined 32g. I'm being more careful with housekeeping and am considering the move to Google Music to cloud most of my albums...I'm pretty confident I can make this part work without much problem. This phone as an insurance replacement kept me on unlimited so I'm not concerned right with streaming.

So far I've not experienced any SIM card errors, lockups, or other weird operational glitches. I think it kicked me out of the browser a couple of times, but I'd seen that on my Rez too.

All in all, I'm finding the DNA to be a dramatic improvement over my Rezound, and I'm absolutely loving it. If you can latch onto it as a free upgrade, I don't believe you will regret it. Even if you had to pay for it I'm not sure there's a better Android alternative (and I deliberately include the S4 in this) available on Big Red today. Short of the mythical Verizon One, I don't think you can do better.

Just opened my new DNA. Stuck on Preparing SIM card message... can't even activate.

I had this problem and ended up calling Verizon technical support, was told that it can take up to 15-20 minutes to go through the activation process. The very nice rep said she could fiddle with her computer to speed things up and shortly after everything started happening.

A while back I was able to get in on a jump from 2 gigs of data for each phone on my plan to 4 gigs of data for getting 4g phones. That has been plenty of data. I dont think they offer that anymore since they went to the family share plans.

So, after talking to Verizon and looking at price plans, I decided to stick with the Rezound. I hate the battery life, but I'm not sure if being tethered to a charging cable is worse than paying an extra $20/month for more data. Being as I can tear through data now with my grandfathered unlimited plan, until one of the other two phones on my plan dies and needs a data package (they all use old fashioned non-smart(?) phones) it just makes more sense to stick with what I have. I appreciate all your insight, and worked pretty hard to convince myself I could survive on 1gig of data, but in the end, I just couldn't do it.
