Custom (non HTC) wallpapers - slightly laggy home screens?

Have you guys noticed any additional rendering/visual lag when using a custom wallpaper (i.e. not one of the HTC wallpapers that come with the phone)? I downloaded a bunch last night, at 1440 by 1280 resolution. And when I use any of them, they look fantastic, but the home screens feel a tad laggy - scrolling left and right just isn't as smooth/instantaneous as when using an HTC wallpaper. I wonder if it's because of the resolution difference.
