Custom ringtone from stored music

[Android Central Question]

Following menu steps Settings - Sound - Phone ringtone - + Add ringtone I can select the tune I wish to set as ringtone. But it doesn't actually become ringtone. How do I complete the step as every action seems to just take it back to the 100 or so on board pre set ringtones?

Using your favorite file browser app, copy the music file to the /Ringtones folder.
The next time you use the ringtone picker app, the new file should be automatically added to the list.
You will want to trim the ringtone file down to 5-15 seconds since a 3 minute file makes no sense as a ringtone.
