The EVO Shift is my first Android phone. Googled and looked at the cyanogenmod forums with little information about plans for the EVO Shift and custom ROMs. Anyone hear any buzz about someone working on them?

we currently only have temp root...meaning everytime the phone is rebooted root is lost...custom roms are being worked on but are basically useless until we get perma root...however, with temp root, you can still remove the bloatware as well as use root only programs until you reboot, which for me has made my phone way faster and i just got 30 hours off the charger with moderate use....if you search this forum there are already other threads about temp root and roms being worked on

Thanks, I've been using the z4root app to root mine (found out about it on this forum before I got the phone). As for battery life, which apps did you remove that you think caused the most drain?

heres a printout from my terminal emulator...as a trick you can set the initial command in the options to run this and remove all the bloat just by opening the term emu (of course you rm whatever you want not just this list)....until we get perma root this is a good quick way to remove it everytime you reboot and temp root

make sure you remove .apk and .odex (if available)...you can us ls after cd system/app to list all the apk names in case theres others you wanna get rid of

su
cd system/app
rm amazonmp3.apk
rm com.htc.StockWidget.apk
rm com.htc.StockWidget.odex
rm com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk
rm com.htc.TwitterWidget.odex
rm Flickr.apk rm Flickr.odex
rm htcbookmarkwidget.apk
rm htcbookmarkwidget.odex
rm HtcCarPanel.apk
rm HtcCarPanel.odex
rm HtcFootprints.apk
rm HtcFootprints.odex
rm HtcFootprintsWidget.apk
rm HtcFootprintsWidget.odex
rm HtcTwitter.apk rm
HtcTwitter.odex
rm nascar09-prod-release.apk
rm PicoTts.apk
rm PicoTts.odex
rm sfl-prod-release.apk
rm Sprint_Navigator.apk
rm Sprint_TV.apk
rm SprintZone.apk
rm Stock.apk
rm Stock.odex

There is already a custom recovery that has been created and there are a few roms being worked on but like StAlphonso said we need Perm Root in order to use these.

StAlphonso, it say read only file system when I try to delete those files, even after temp rooting. Tried bot local shell using connectbot and adb shell. What am I missing?

Thanks

Ok, on mine I seem to have to do:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p26 /system

first.
