After I download a rom (probably Reborn) do i EXTRACT it to the sdcard or COPY to sdcard or BOTH (extract then copy) ?

Just copy it...do not extract it.

your contacts are attached to your gmail acccount. So your contacts are never lost

Don't forget to make a nandroid and back up in Titanium before flashing.
