Custom Text Messages by contact (within contacts app) on Samsung S8 or any newer Samsung Galaxy phone??
So wondering how in a thread I read on Android Authority it said they restored this capability in Messages App Version 10. Heck I have version 13 on my phone, no they have not.

My version of Messages on Samsung S8 is version 10. And of course I have Contacts as well. In Contacts you used to be able to assign custom text tones. But in S8 Nope. I have side-loaded an old version app called Contacts+ that does allow custom text tone notifications by Samsung contacts but is done in this Contacts+ app and not in Messages app (which I turned off). It has its quirks but is free and it works. I had to figure out though how to extract the APK and re-sign it so the newer version of Contacts+ plus doe snot update. So wondering how in this thread ( https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-messages-custom-ringtones-876777/ ) they said they restored the customer text tones in Messages app when it used to be in the Contacts App in Samsung S6. I do not want a work around of Zedge or some other app where I have to have at least one thread of a message to assign a tone. I want it build into the phone like Pixel, Apple and such. To have removed this is idiotic and the brainchild of someone who is missing the "brain" part. It is a major feature. Thanks, Peter

Samsung's custom text tones are by "Conversation" Not by Contact name. They got rid of it around 2018 or so (I can't recall the exact timeframe). I had an S8+ and people were pissed when they removed it. They tried to cover themselves but doing it by Conversation but it is NOT the same as by Contact Name.

I no longer have a Samsung so I am not sure if it has been fixed as I have not kept track of this since 2020.

Maybe someone else can chime in.
