Customized Ringtone Notifications Handcent

I'm not sure what is going on, but for some reason, when I set the customized ringtone notification for specific friends, the default tone continues to ring when text messages come through. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you found, a work around?

Make sure you disabled notifications on the stock messaging app.

Now the only other issue that I'm noticing is that it doesn't store the custom tones when the phone is powered off and then on again.
