I installed the latest 4.04 update about a week ago by using CMW and everything went smoothly. Tonight I tried flashing a ROM for the first time but when I pressed to flash the clockwork mod recovery this message came out :"An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" In addition, when I tried to reboot into recovery, CMW would just freeze on me. Please help!:(

It looks like you lost root access and need to re-root your nexus again. You may have flashed the non-rooted 404 rom.

Check your app drawer and see if the superuser icon is still there.

You flashed the OTA which unrooted you. An app like RootKeeper would have maintained root.

Essentially, you must root again.

download Mark Skippen's Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit from XDA and root any stock ICS build. 4.0.1-4.0.4 i really like Mark's toolkit. it does everything!!!

I've done everything I can in all the tutorials, however, CWM 5.0.0.6 still refuses to finish flashing.
The status bar gets maybe 95% of the way then I get the error message: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"

I have superuser in my app drawer. Titanium backup has access (without root access this isn't possible).

So, why can't i flash CWM with ICS 4.0.4? :-\

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm gonna take a stab here. Open up superuser and check rom manager. Maybe there's a possibility that you accidentally denied access to rom manager.

I had the same issue. Both Titianium backup and ES File Explorer had root access and were allowing me to do things that require root. However, no new apps including rom manager would request root access. On the advice of another thread, I cleared data for the Superuser application. Then nothing would ask for root. So I ended up flashing the superuser and re-rooting using this method

Everything worked as required after that. So the moral of this post is that just because you think you have root and some apps are working with that, there is something wrong with your root access and you need to re-root.

I had the same problem when upgrading from cna 1.3 to 1.4. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, wiping data and cache under rom manager in settings, and then I updated superuser from within the application and no luck. Then I looked on my su app list and rom manager wasn't there, so i tried going through the apps I had that needed su permissions and made sure that all were allowed. Rebooted and tried again after running fix permissions from within rom manager and it worked. Don't know if this could be a real workaround for you, but I don't think it could hurt anything. Hope you get it fixed! Aloha! :-)

I am having the same problem as everyone else on here. Yesterday, I unlocked and rooted with wug's toolkit. I had CWM recovery working and everything, so I flashed 4.0.4. I tried to customize the soft keys, but I was having some problems (probably because the root had been broken, but I didn't realize that at the time) so I did a factory reset. I got all of my stuff back, fastboot says I'm unlocked, I just rerooted with wug's toolkit, I have the superuser icon, but I get the same error on flashing CWM recovery as everyone else. ROM manager never requests root access, and neither does any other root app (like root explorer), so I don't know what to do. Help!

azetoh, try going into the superuser app and tap the wrench in upper right corner to enter settings. Go down to where it says the binary code version and tap to check for updates. Then tap update anyway. That might fix your problem. Good luck. Aloha!

You were right about it not being up to date, but when I try to update it, it fails to get root access. I will try to go through the whole root process again tomorrow, but thanks for now

Yeah, head scratcher. If WUGs toolkit doesn't work again when trying next, try using the step by step method that is stickied at the top of the forum here. I think that might eliminate a few possible hangups with your root. Also, the price for the voodoo root keeper app is worth not having the hassle of losing root like this when flashing roms. I bought it and I do a root keeper backup with the app each time I flash a rom and I have yet to have a problem( knock on wood) :-) hope you get it solved so you can enjoy the goodness of cna soon. Good luck. Aloha!

I'm in the same boat. I went through Droid-Life's rooting procedure. Everything went fine but I'm still in "Limbo Root". Let me know if you find anything else out new. It would be much appreciated. Weird thing is I still have Superuser and I'm still able to tether which I thought was only able through root. I use PdaNet (usb tether) and Widgetsoid to wireless tether. Both work just fine. Not sure where to go from here. Only thing I can think of is that when we finally do get the update we will lose root and our unlocked bootloader and we can start from scratch at that point.

Help from anyone else would be much appreciated as well.

It just occurred to me that the reason it wasn't working was because wug's toolkit is built for 4.0.2. I haven't gotten around to trying to root again (busy) but I bet this is the source of the issue. Hopefully it doesn't do any permanent damage

I had the same problem, but I manage to sort it out. Download a new su.zip here. Then replace old su.zip in your Wugs Gnex Root Toolkit folder with the new su.zip and do the root again.
