CWM Not Working

Hello, Today I finnaly got my nerves and wanted to root my brand new Nexus 5.
I am experienced with iOS hacking, so I am not complete newbie to all this.

So, I followed all those steps to root my Nexus 5 - How to root the Nexus 5: tutorial - AndroidPIT
Everything was fine, Recovery was working after installing it, then I copied SuperSU zip to root of the phone, rebooted it into fastboot, selected Recovery Mode, but now it's showing me android, fallen on it's back with red exclamation mark.

I would just install recovery.img over again, but I am a bit freaked out, as I have experience for bricking PSP, while doing the obvious.
Rest of the phone is working just fine.


Please, forgive me if I am using all your android termins wrong, as I am new to this.
What should I do?

This is normal. don't freakout... whenever you reboot your device Android will overwrite custom recovery(CWM) with stock recovery

but the problem with stock recovery is that you will land on this screen and you have to press "Volume Up+ Power" button at the same time to get to stock recovery.
I am not 100% sure but it maybe some other combination also "Volume Down+Up + Power" or "Volume Down+ Power". Google it

to avoid this problem I root and install Rom manager and give root access to ROM manager. whenever i want to go to CWM. I would flash CWM from ROM manager and reboot to recovery

Nope.. you have to flash CWM recovery again and then use CWM to flash zip file..

that's the whole reason why we are installing CWM recovery which has many additional features like this.

you have to run this step again. without rebooting just flash the supersu

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

also when u r in CWM recovery and click go back it will prompt you if you want to stop stock recovery from being flashed on reboot.

click Yes for that

No, this would be a massive security issue. If that was possible hackers could flash things to stolen phones and bypass the lockscreen and gain access to all the personal data. It's stock recovery for a reason, some older Android phones in the past have security exploits for their stock recovery and it was used for rooting. But Nexus recovery is much more secure now.

You take a risk when you have custom recovery installed, if you lose your phone, with an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed, unless your device is encrypted, basically you can do anything you want to a device and gain access to the data.

I suggest TWRP over CWM. I prefer it, but its up to you. I suggest learning to use fastboot to flash recoveries, but the easy way is to use the GooManager app (get it from PlayStore). To install it, select tthe 3dots menu, and select "Install OpenRecoveryScript". You can easily switch back to CWM if you don't like it. The app can install compatible roms available from goo.im server as well, but it's sorted by developers.

BTW, it is hard to brick a Nexus, though not impossible.

Hi, I am using a rooted Lenovo s60-a. I installed a wrong version of CWM recovery and I cannot enter recovery mode. All I see is the Lenovo logo when I try to enter recovery, pls help
