Re: CWM Recovery version 2 Released

LOL... And now CWM Version 3 by the same great guys who brought us version 2. CM Team Epic

For changelol and download link click here

Version3 allows you to save your backup to your sd card so you don't have to clog up your internal storage (my stock nandroid was like 1.25GB!)

Okay this I getting hard to keep up lol. Version 4 available....

See original post for link.

I'm new to this so let me ask first. Just download the new version, transfer my backup to the SD card, Run Odin and install the new version and I'm good?

if you are already rooted then just right click on odin and choose run as administrator, click on pda browse to where you put CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v4.tar.md5 make sure only pda and auto reboot are checked. put your phone in download mode. Once all of those steps are complete plug you phone into the computer via usb cable. Look in the ID:COM block and make sure it has com and a number . this verifies odin recognizes your phone. Hit start and when odin say pass it will reboot your phone. you can unplug it any time after this.

I once it boots I would not move your back up. I would make a new backup and delete the original one on your phone. The new recovery may not be compatible with the older version backups .

FYI... I always remove my sd card prior to running odin.

Pretty much what I did except delete the old backup. Guess I'll do that when I get home. Thanks!

Just a quick question, do we have to use Odin to flash the recovery couldn't we just use flash_image.

Even if it was supported you must have root access to use it.

So to answer your question... The only way to root the GS3 is with Odin.

Is there a way to verify we actually have version 4 of cwm?

I ask because Odin said passed, but when I went to back up it said no external sd found, skipping back up.

Nevermind. After boot up I checked. The backup went to external and did not put it on the internal.

I know that I already have root just wanted to know if I could use flash_image instead, it's what I'm used to using. It's more of an inconvenience for me to use Odin.

I don't get it.... What do you want to flash that won't be zipped to flash in cwm? Most stuff you flash will be in cwm.

Yeah sorry didn't notice there was a flashable zip to flash recovery if you already had cwm, I've never heard of it but I'm coming from the Optimus s forums and I've never seen it over there story for the confusion.
