Cyanogen mod on Inspire

Was at work and saw a co worker with a cyanogen mod on his G2, looked really awesome, he said it was a gingerbread mod or something to that affect. When it comesto android not only am i ignorant, i am downright stupid. I would like to know if it is possible to get the same thing on my inspire, and if so is it really that hard do do it? what are the pros and cons of doing this? is it worth it? are there any risks of losing personal information? is it stable? thanks in advanced guys, i know i have a lot of questions

It's rooting and installing a custom ROM.

How hard it is depends on how experienced and confident you are.

I wouldn't worry about loosing personal information. Just back up anything important.

There isn't a stable release, but I've heard that the nightlies are pretty stable, lots of people running them.

Only real con is that rooting voids your warranty...
