CyanogenMod Nightlies Now Available

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd mention this here since I hadn't seen a thread about this here yet. Hashcode has done a lot of development for the fire and all of his hard work finally paid off recently. If you head to get.cm and look for the device "otter" you will find that nightly builds of CyanogenMod are now coming out for our device. I'm running build cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-otter.zip on my fire and have been very impressed so far.

Edit:
Just to be perfectly clear this release "otter" is for the original kindle fire. If you have a kindle HD or the new kindle fire 2 this is not something that will work on those devices.

Out of curiosity, for someone who hasn't tried a full kernel replacement before, how difficult is it to switch back and forth between stock and Cyanogen? I have my fire rooted, for the Play store, but this would be something much deeper. Also, does loading Cyanogen just replace the kernel or do the apps and content need to be reloaded?

Hello. Im an avid user of the kindle fire and Im from the XDA forums. We have a lot of developement for our smal low end device thanks to hashcode. Im a developer of stock modaco roms over there. So if you do a full wipe and install Hashcode's Nightlies. All you would have to do is download a stock rom and flash it in recovery. And your good to go!

Tobiascuypers does have a modified stock rom for the original kindle fire that you can try if you like, the benefits are you still have a recovery, and firefirefire installed after you install his rom. If you want to go back to pure stock it actually is pretty easy, but can be difficult to fix if things go bad. Assuming you have the original recovery that KFU installs simply download the bin file from Amazon (I have a 6.2.2 release that I use, I assume it should work with the new 6.2.3 as well), wipe your kindle fire (I typically wipe everything, system, factory reset, cache and dalvik) rename the downloaded file to a .zip file and flash it and then I wipe data to give me a clean device. This will result in a kindle fire that will need to have a recovery and firefirefire reinstalled if you want to put anything else on it. And as always I am not responsible for a broken device if you do this differently than I have (causing a problem), however I will try and help if I can.
