Cyanogenmod w/ HTC Dialer?

I've tried Cyanogenmod, and like it a lot, but the dialer is such a step down from the HTC dialer. In the HTC dialer, when i dial a couple numbers, it will show contacts that match the numbers I've punched in. (either numbers or names) I sorely miss this in the AOSP dialer. In the AOSP dialer, I have to scroll down through contacts to find the person I want to call.

So my question is, is there a way to copy the HTC dialer over to Cyanogenmod? Or is it too dependent on Sence?

Perhaps I've missed something in the Cyanogen dialer that would allow it to do what I'm asking? It seems like such a no-brainer. I think every phone I've owned for the last 10 years has been able to do it.

I also like the camera in stock 2.2 over the camera in Cyanogenmod, but I can live without that. But the dialer is really the showstopper for me, and I've had to go back to stock 2.2 because of it.

Any ideas?

Not possible. All sense apps are tied deeply into the sense framework. There are apps in the Market that somewhat replicate the sense dialer experience. If you look in the OP of my nightlies thread, I have a link to the MIUI camera that can be flashed on top of CM7 and it has a Sense-like interface.

I had same complaint about the CM7 dialer. I'm typically a Sense guy but when I do go back to CM7 on occasion I like Go Contacts EX. There is a dialer app included in it and its a free app. I didn't really dig their contacts part but hey, don't use it if you don't like it...the dialer is very similar to Sense in that you can start spelling the name of the contact and it will bring up possible matches, then you tap the one you want and it dials. Very nice, very free.

I've tried dialer one before, but I didn't like it much. I just tried Go Contacts EX, and that may just be what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

To me the "type a name and it brings up possible contacts" ability is a necessity.

Now I remember what I didn't like about Dialer One, it doesn't actually replace the phone app. Go Dialer has the same drawback. Is the phone app itself replaceable?

It should replace it at the user interface level. What I mean is, if you go to your contacts and hit the dial button it ought to give you the option to use Go Dialer as the default dialer. Set it as default and you should be good to go.

I use Go Contacts EX as well, as my default, and one of the cool things I like is the ability to skin it lots of different ways to suit your fancy.

I'm finding that I can't clear the missed call notification with the Go Dialer's Call Log. I have to open the Android Call Log to get it to clear. Is that just an unfortunate annoyance I'll have to deal with when using a different Dialer?

I'm not really sure since I'm back on Nils BGS 3.5. I would think when you miss a call you can just use the dropdown notification menu to see the missed, thereby clearing it. Or use the dropdown and hit the "clear" button/swipe it clear to the right.

Does that help, or do you mean your in the the call log in the dialer and it won't let you clear the entire call log?

nope Go Dialer stinks with that. You have to clear the entire call log or a missed call from a week ago will still show up in the notification bar.
That and some other quirks is why I went from the rooted stock rom with go to CM7 with ADW......but the dial by letters is a necessity.
