So I'm having a problem with the Windows Media Sync on my 1 day old D2. The problem is my D2 can't seem to handle large data file transfer from a PC while synchronizing vis Windows Media Player under Windows 7 - 64bit. I was synchronizing a little over 2gb of music files, and the sync session freezes and D2 no longer accepts files from my computer. I've tried all I could think of in order to trouble shoot the issue on my own. When I ran out of ideas, I went to a local VZ store in La Habra, CA. to ask for exchange to another D2 unit since there was a possibility that I have a defective unit. There were two managers on duty, and the first manager told me he could only exchange phones after I call the tech support and verify that there was a problem with my D2. So I did that. The tech support I spoke with even connected me to a Motorola tech support, and we went through everything he could think of, all of which I already tried on my own. At the end he told me there was something wrong with my D2. Even the VZ tech guy also acknowledged that I should exchange my D2 with another unit. Obviously, I'm writing this because I didn't get what I want. The 2nd store manager told me he couldn't authorize the exchange because he could not duplicate the problem. The thing is he couldn't possible duplicate the issue since the store was not equipped with a computer to sync with any smartphones. They were not allowed to download anything from their computers to another device. Very disappointed, I called another tech support and had a long conversation with another tech support, and he sounded more knowledgeable than the others. He came to a conclusion that there seem to be a compatibility issue between Froyo 2.2 and Windows Media Player Sync. Since D2 has only been on the market 2 days, I couldn't find any information on the subject when I googled for it. To me, it was still a valid reason for exchange since there's a problem with my phone, and I'm not 100% satisfied with my purchase.

Can anyone try to synchronize your music files of 2gb + via Windows Media Sync, and see if synchronizing finishes without a freeze? Please don't forget to set your D2 to Windows Media Sync mode instead of USB Mass Storage mode. Thanks!

p.s. I've been a VZ customer since they started as Airtouch. I've never had this difficult time to exchange phones before.

just use mass storage mode...that's all i've ever used on my droids and it has yet to fail. i'm running windows 7 64bit as well

i think i've loaded over 8GB of music onto my phone, too

Why use media sync? just do what the above poster suggested. Create a folder called "Music" on the root of your MicroSD card and drag/drop your music into that folder.

The SD cards on every Droid phone gets indexed, so no matter where you put your music, the music app will find them. :)

Wow, your experience really stinks. Honestly, I've never had that experience with Verizon yet. In fact, one of the main reasons I've stuck with Verizon is their service has traditionally been better AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.

I use Windows Media Player to sync files as well. I just drag over your files into to the sync list, and hit go. It's much faster than dragging and dropping-and cleaner since it builds "proper" folder directory. Artist/Album/Songs. I've done this with no issues whatsoever on my 2.2 powered Droid 1.

Anyway, the problem is most likely your 64 bit version of Windows. It doesn't play very nice with Android. I remember I used to have to enable debugging mode just for my 64 bit computer to recognize it, and even then it would often fail. My solution was to just use my other PC running a 32 bit version. Assuming that was source of your problem, in all honesty, the managers had every right to deny your claim. They can't just issue a swap without being sure the problem isn't user error. They have to be sure the device is actually malfunctioning.

I would love to see if I could replicate your problem for you, but my D2 has yet to arrive. I'll have it most likely by tomorrow morning. Soon as I am able, I'll see what I can do to help.

Ok, I have my Droid 2 in hand now. To sync via Windows Media Player, you need to select USB Mass Storage, and move your itens from you library, over to the right to sync with your phone

If I had the same issue with my DX, I wouldn't complain at all. My DX successfully synchronized many times without a hiccup. I even borrowed my friend's D2, but his D2 didn't display this problem. Either the VZ techs or I can't pin point the issue with my D2 (actually it's my wife's), but there's nonetheless a problem.

I just got mY D2 yesterday and have become about brand dead exploring. I decided to come to this forum and read from last. Page to first every entry. I bookmark some pages and write notes for further study. After 18 mo with an S1, I have learned to do my home work.

I have not tried WIFI, bluetooth, or putting any media on here yet. I will read all this first and learn to type on this thing first.

As far as Verizon costomer service goes, I noticed a marked decline yesterday in the store. Just think what it will decline to when they get the iPnone.

Also like to add now that I've had my phone for a few weeks, is that you can put your phone into PC Mode and sync as well. It is now my preferred mode to adding media since you don't have to eject the device when you're done.

I'm gonna play with the mediashare and various other apps on the market today to see if I can find the best wireless sharing setup.
