Lately around noon I'll get a tone that sounds like a text message (I suppose I can change that) along with the voicemail again. When I look at it, the display is 'We cannot access visual voicemail at this time', or something like that. There is voicemails waiting. It's a Total Wireless phone that uses Verizon's network. Is there any way to eliminate that?

Also - if I just check voicemail, I'll get the same icon with 'Voicemail activities received' - the phone has never just shown a basic notification when there's a new voicemail waiting. I then have to clear the notification to eliminate the icon. Not sure which Android version I have at the moment, but I always do updates when they're available. My old flip phone was dependable in that respect - only showed the voicemail icon with a new message.

Which phone? Does it have a Visual Voicemail app installed? If so, try clearing the app cache/data from that app in Settings>Apps.

It's a Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown. I just see 'Voicemail' in apps, not 'Visual Voicemail'. It's not very useful because when I just left a test voicemail it did give the usual audible alert, but again with the 'can't connect to Visual Voice mail... and when I select it, 'No Voicemails' shows when there are in fact new messages. I then checked for messages, got the tone and icon again.

I cleared the data/cache - also gave the app permissions to access phone/contacts etc. Tried another test message, now like it did previously it says 'Voicemail activities received, click to sign in'. When I do i get the 'Can't connect to Visual Voicemail.. check your network connection...' It seems this is Visual Voicemail although it just says Voicemail. Last week I turned off notifications for it - assuming maybe a standard voicemail notification would indicate a new message but got no indication at all.

Open the Phone app, tap Menu>Call Settings>Voicemail>Voicemail Setup. Is the Voicemail Number set to *86?

Hello - the app just says 'Voicemail' although it seems to be actually Visual Voicemail. This is a believe a carrier model meaning I bought it in a box as a Total Wireless product. It would be nice if Verizon had a text/email alert option upon receipt of a new voicemail, I'd have it got to my phone #@vtext.com and email address.

If you see visual voice mail.in your app drawer long press it and tap.info then scroll to storage and clear its data and force stop.it

Doing that earlier now at least will display 'Voicemail activities received'... instead of 'We can't connect to Visual Voicemail....'

I guess I'll find out tomorrow around noon if I get the 'We can't connect to Visual Voicemail' alert. But the notification activates, not just when receiving a new message, but after calling voicemail too. I don't get a lot of voicemail messages on the cell phone, have a home phone for that. I just wish it would work as expected. It's always been like that, maybe that's just the way it works with this phone and Verizon.

When I turned General Notifications off like I did a few days ago and left Voicemails on, I get no tone or icon. If I turn General Notifications on and Voicemails off, I get the tone and icon as usual. Same with both on. I changed the alert tone to be different from texts. As before, when I call into voicemail to listen to the message I'll get the alert again when I disconnect. I've been clearing that notification as a routine.

I'm in the telecom business and it just seems crazy to work like that, but I've managed for the year and a half that I've had the phone. It could be Verizon is sending a Message Waiting code every time I call it, and the Android system is operating as it should.

To further justify the theory Verizon is causing the issue - I called my cell phone from my home phone, went to voicemail and logged in to access messages. I still got the alert! It's specifically the tone, icon and 'Voicemail activities received...' - didn't even touch the cell phone except to reject the call. I think that tells me the Android system and app are working as designed and Verizon is sending a 'Voicemail activities' and not necessarily a New Message alert.

I can't call Verizon, as I'm actually a Total Wireless customer. And not even going to consider calling Total Wireless support like I did before, big waste of time. Thanks everyone for the help on this.
