Dalvik cleaner

Rooted optimus s, stock rom. Ok does anyone know what the "Dalvik cleaner" does that comes with titanium backup? Is it safe to use?
And what it the point of it?

cleans the dalvik cache, perfectly safe to use...

sometimes the dalvik cache fills up with no reason or rhyme - well there is one but its not that important....
