damn you otterbox

Because some people work in harsh or construction environments. Shouldn't take too much thought to figure that out.

He was just trying to justify to himself the case he bought. Otherwise he wouldn't have been so nonsensical in his exaggerations to try and prove a point that never needed to be proven to begin with. You can always spot those types of posts and quickly disregard them.

I probably would consider a good looking Otterbox case if one was available. A little more protection would be nice for added peace of mind.

The nexus phones don't sell enough volume for Ottetbox to be interested in making cases for them.

Im pretty sure they have made cases for lots of other not so popular phones, so I don't buy that excuse.

Yeah I agree with you. I own the Galaxy Note 10.1 (Original Version) and they made a Defender Series case for that which I bought. I highly doubt the Nexus devices sell less than that Note 10.1 did. And even if they do (definitely a possibility), Otter seems much more hesitant to do Tablet cases than Smartphone cases so it seems a popular device like the Nexus would be a good market for them. Not to mention smaller companies can crank out cases for every device imaginable. I'm pretty sure Otter has the ability to do it if they wanted to. They could do a test run to see how the product would sell and then do a full run later on if it did well.

To be quite frank, the problem with Otter is their preoccupation with Apple devices. They're so obsessed with making cases for Apple devices that they don't have the time to give any love to Android. I follow them on Twitter and Google+ and every last one of their posts are about iPad Air and iPhone 5s cases. Heck, they announced cases for those devices before or the day of the device being unveiled for crying out loud. We're lucky to get an Android case within 8 months from them unless it's a Galaxy S series.

My harshest environment is my datacenter so I don't need something for a construction environment. Not everyone needs max protection, shouldn't be too hard to figure that out, huh?

Not justifying anything...simply stated what I bought and what works for me. You don't need top recognized brands for quality products. I'm happy with my purchase as it suits my needs. Free country so disregard what you want.

You make fun of people who may need a very big, bulky, protective case and then get sarcastic when someone tells you that they need it because of work. Just because they need it for work doesn't mean they're buying it to run it over with a lawnmower or throw it around like you said. If your harshest environment is a datacenter, then clearly you wouldn't need a case let alone a big bulky one. So instead of making fun of what others might need, maybe you could just say what you like in a case without the pointless sarcasm. Otherwise, expect comments like the ones you got.

Simply stating what works for you would have been great. Without all of the ridiculous other things you felt needed to be thrown in there. In MY experience, $3 cases off Amazon have been a big letdown, so I choose to pay for the products that have built up a reputation for making high quality products. I also have a 2 year old in the house so I need some protection on my device. The OP was expressing his dissatisfaction with the lack of an Otterbox for his phone. I agreed with him and stated my reasons, and I didn't make fun of anyone for having a different opinion.

Um, look back through the thread and see who got snarky first....I believe that was you. And at this point we have run this into the ground so I'm done. Glad you like your case, I like mine. All is good in the world....

I didn't say anything snarky until you commented about why YOU don't need a bulky case and made it sound like everyone who thinks they do are dumb because they run over it with a lawnmower. All my comments were about MY opinions of cases and I wasn't making fun of anyone else. And I think you misunderstood and thought I was making fun of your $10 case from Amazon. I wasn't. I said those $2-3 cases (again, not your $10 one) in my experience were nasty cases that didn't compare to the higher quality.

I think if I had come out of the gates being the "snarky" one, it wouldn't have been you that multiple people took issue with. Something to consider...

The silly bickering needs to stop. Keep it up and there will be infractions issued. I suggest that those participating in the thread read the forum rules and follow them.

Has anyone tried the bumper case that is sold on Google Play? I've already ordered one, but I wouldn't mind knowing now that it was a good purchase. :-)

You'll have to let us know when you get it. I'm considering it myself since I doubt the Otter case will be wireless charging compatible even if it ever is available.

Get the Active case from Seidio. It's the same quality and protection. I think OtterBox has just decided that it no longer wants to play in the lower volume Nexus market. There loss.

Since I only had my nexus 5 for a week I was able to exchange it for an HTC one, which kid now sporting it's letterbox defender. I must say this phone is also much nicer then the nexus!!

I would kill for a Lifeproof water PROOF case for the n5.. That case was the only good thing about owning a iPhone 4
