Ive read the directions so many times..says to turn on dark mode via settings in chrome and look for themes. Can't find it at all. Ive looked all over. What am I missing?? Ps chrome is updated as of last night

I never could find it.

Try using the Microsoft Edge browser. It has a wonderful dark mode, very one handed friendly with all controls at bottom of browser, uses less ram and is faster, and wont snoop on you as much.

I'll never go back to Chrome.

Thanks! Crazy that they make it sound so easy and then it's not possible.

If you're still interested this is what you do. Go to SETTINGS in the CHROME app. Click on ACCESSIBILITY. Click on SIMPLIFIED VIEW. Then exit SETTINGS. Select any article you want to read on Chrome and open it. At the bottom of the screen you'll see SHOW SIMPLIFIED VIEW. Click on it. You'll then see 3 dots in the upper right corner. Click on them and you'll see APPEARANCE. Click on it and you'll see 3 boxes: LIGHT, DARK & SEPIA. Click on DARK. Every time you subsequently open an article in Chrome it will initially show with the usual white background but also have SHOW SIMPLIFIED VIEW at the bottom. Once you click on that the page goes into DARK MODE. Once you click on the back icon you'll exit DARK MODE.

I really dislike the mobile Chrome app. I use Samsung Internet.

Thank you! So it sounds like it won't STAY in dark mode? Sounds like you have to tell each page to go dark?

My pleasure. No. It doesn't STAY in dark mode. You have to click on the box at the bottom of the page when the article opens. I've also noticed that there are a few articles (eg a few in BBC sport) that failed to convert to dark mode. I don't know why.

Here are the steps to enable it if you don't see the Theme option in Settings:

Enable dark mode for Chrome on Android
1. Dark mode is still an experimental feature in Chrome for Android, so bear in mind that some design elements might look a little strange. To activate it, enter chrome://flags in the browser's address bar.

2. Tap the 'Search flags' box and enter the work dark. You'll find two options here: 'Android web contents dark mode' and 'Android Chrome UI dark mode'. If you activate the first option, Chrome will detect if a site's developers have created a dark version and select it automatically. If there's no dark version available, the browser will invert the site's colors. Activating the second option means that the browser interface itself will turn dark.

3. Tap the drop-down menu under each of these options and change the setting to 'Activated', then restart Chrome.

4. Now open the settings menu, tap 'Themes' and select 'Dark'. If you can't see the Themes option, restart Chrome again and it should appear.
