Dark mode - is it a big deal to you?

I think battery life is a big consideration, dark mode will use less battery since it lights up less pixels.
Your use will have a large part also, I do permanent night shift and sitting in a dark place the display is really hard on my eyes with all that white! Having dark mode calms that somewhat, and also doesn't destroy my night vision as much... But it's nice to have the option to choose.
Before dark mode, I used to reverse the colours (negativ colours) to ease the burden on my retina.

Absolutely right.

Like I said I'm on expecting dark mode for Google Assistant, and Gmail inbox primarily!

Dark mode is working perfectly for me however it seems like my Google search results aren't in dark mode. Anyone else with the same issue?

I didn't have this issue yesterday.

Ah, so the boot screen _shoukd_ be dark?

The boot screen is dark.... and it's the most soothing, relaxing phone now that I've ever turned on.....in any situation light or dark. As soon as I installed the OTA I just restarted 3 times, went into display settings, and turned on dark mode and instantly everything went dark including the boot screen. It's beautiful man :O :-D :-P ;-)

I agree the dark boot screen is so much better. From what I’ve been observing on various forums tho there is some sort of minor bug that prevents it from turning dark by simply enabling the function in settings. The easy fix was shared above. I think the dark mode is not completely baked yet as gmail is still a stark blaring white. Hoping a solid dark mode for all apps and especially gmail is coming pretty soon.

Dark mode is the bomb! Great stuff on the phone, I have it enabled on my Windows laptops too, plus blue light filter on as well. The Windows 1903 update comes with new dark mode screens. Go ahead and install the latest Windows update to also get dark mode features on your Windows laptop.

I'm still waiting for the phone Gmail app to have dark mode...why doesn't it??

Anyone notice the built-in Samsung Internet app has dark mode? So cool.

Why doesn't Chrome have it?

Apart from showing off to my wife who is on the other side (iPhone) ;) i turned it on as it apparently extends the time between charges. My Pixel 3XL is pretty poor so anything to stretch the battery is a plus.

Don't know yet whether it really helps...

Read on android police that a server side gmail dark mode is rolling out gradually. Looking forward to getting that one.

It's a mixed bag for me. I turned it on right away and liked it at first, and then I discovered that a much-used app was almost unreadable--forcing me to switch dark mode off and on. And then I discovered that if I did that, even some Google apps, like the calendar, didn't properly revert to light mode unless I did a restart. This on a Pixel 2. In general, during the day, normal black text on a light background is much easier to read, but some apps are so glaringly white that they are almost painful once the sun sets. I used to work a job that had late-night hours and having dark mode would have been wonderful. I really prefer the look of Twitter's own dark mode over their light mode, both day and night. I think dark mode could be a little less black in most cases--just subdue the brilliant white that is the current Google theme.

The thing I most appreciate, by far, is the start up screen no longer accosting my eyes. Not that I restart often, but I always hated that at night.

The Verizon splash screen with its bright neon red color and thunderbolt logo was extremely obnoxious whenever doing a soft reset. I've seen that screen hundreds of times over the years. I'm glad I switched to unlocked phones now...no more of that nonsense.

I do enjoy changing things up a bit and so the option to have Dark Mode enabled means a lot! I'll toggle between Light and Dark Mode often now. It's a refreshing change and it's easier on my eyes.
