Data Issues / Phone Issues

I'm using the BAMF Forever ROM and seem to have 2 ongoing issues. Perhaps it's not the ROM but I was just wondering... Also, let me apologize if there is currently an active thread on both of these topics.

First, I keep losing signal. It happens every so often but I seem to go to 3G then to no signal at all. Not even a reboot will help, then it magically comes back. Is this a ROM issue or is it a Verizon data outage issue? It's been happening for about an hour today so far.

Second, sometimes when I get a call, I can't move the ring up on the lock screen to answer the call - it just shows end call and won't let me answer it... Anyone else having this problem?

On a good note - I have the extended battery and since I rooted my phone and started using BAMF, the battery is lasting me almost 36 hours on light use. If I use the internet or facebook (as examples), it goes a little faster. I've learned some pretty cool tricks with this ROM and since rooting my phone. Glad I did.

Thanks for any help.

sometimes I have to manually force lte on using the lte onoff app or similar. although, as said above, the lte is down. if you are getting 1x, try lte only with voice, if that doesn't work, try cdma auto prl.

If that doesn't work, then most likely, it means lte and ehprd (3G) are down. you can force it to rev. A (3G) by doing the following and it may work. 3G, but 3G is better than 1x...

  1. Dial ##778#
  2. Press Call button
  3. The password is 000000
  4. Choose Edit Mode
  5. Go to Modem Settings
  6. Choose Rev A
  7. Switch from eHRPD to Enable
  8. Press OK
  9. Commit Modifications (reboot phone off/on)

Yes, all have numerous threads here -- but, apology accepted :)

Signal -- apparently VZW is having some issues across the country right now (based on other posts today). Other than that, have you tried any of the settings suggested here to improve your data connection?

No Answer choice on Lock screen -- known ROM issue. I'm not running an aftermarket ROM, but I understand there is a fix for this. Check the ROM/HACK forum.

I just looked at the market and it says that the LTE onoff app is not for CYANOGENMOD or any AOSP Based Rom... Is BAMF one of thos?

Another question. I went into the BAMF Settings and it gives me an option for Sense 3 Lock Screen.. What is this (as part of the answer call issue), does it work and how will it change the function of the lock screen?

The call answer problem is a Sense 3.0 issue, you can load a shake to answer application that you can use when the bug occurs.

The "call answer bug" is a well know problem with Sense 3.0 ROMs and the Thunderbolt.

The recommended way to fix is to flash the old Sense 2.1 answer screen. It isn't quite a pretty, but at least it works. This only changes the call answer screen, all other Sense 3.0 elements are left untouched.

As per the BAMF Forever thread:

Sense 2.1 answer screen for those with call answer bugs
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Sense 3.0 answer screen for those who want to go back
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

+1,
I can have this issue about once a day. same as you described, just cant answer.
Am also on Forever (1.10) with Cyan Hot theme.
Might try the shake to answer call - thanks braxtoq OR the 2.1 patch - thanks paintdrinkingpete.

thanks for adding and clarifying the above. So to flash this patch, get to recovery and simply load from zip? or should I wipe both cache and dalvik before? Also, my forever 1.10 is themed (Cyan Hot) - any potential problems or would the Cyan theme override and allow the 2.1 patch and still stay cyan?

No, BAMF is NOT one of those. CYANOGENMOD (aka CM7) is an ASOP ROM. The Liquid Smooth is (I believe it is).

BAMF Forever and Forever Cubed are SENSE 3.0 ROMS.

I am using INFECTED ETERNITY ROM and it is a SENSE 3.5 ROM.

1. Yes -- simply flash in recovery. Shouldn't *need* to wipe anything for this...but whenever modifying system files I almost always: Nandroid --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik --> install .zip --> reboot. Hey, better safe than sorry right? Plus, doing this doesn't really take a whole lot of time.

2. As far as your theme goes, I don't *think* it would have any effect that at all, but I can't be 100% positive about that. I've installed this over some themed ROMs (i.e. BAMF Forever Cubed), and it's never affected any of that. The answer screen itself would most likey be un-themed, however. As I recommended above, just make sure to do a backup in Recovery (nandroid), and if it does screw anything up, you can always revert back quickly.

I liked the look of the 3.0 answer screen better, but honestly, I like actually being able to answer calls. I also find the "swipe down/swipe up" design of the 2.1 screen makes it easier to quickly answer and/or ignore a call. In other words, I like the functionality better of the 2.1 screen even if it isn't as pretty.

+1, I agree, pulling either the green answer bubble or the red one into the ring is not as functional as 2.1

I'll for sure make a nandroid and try flashing this. :-D thanks again for your help.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I've downloaded the 2.1 fix in case I decided to use it. I did notice that 4G has once again returned so I'm going to blame that on Verizon. This forum is awesome. The experts really know how to point everyone to the right place or right direction! Happy New year!!

Stating your issues clearly and concisely goes a long way toward finding a solution. Glad you got it worked out.
