Data only plan on second provider

Is it possible to subscribe to a data only plan and use APN details only the use it? I'm running on a locked AT&T phone. I like the call and text benefits but I would like more data without upgrading the entire plan altogether.

If its a smartphone then no. When att's network sees that it's a smartphone it will tack the data plan back on by default. As far as I know and remember anyways. What device are you using?
