Data plan transfer question

I don't have a smartphone currently. I've been waiting for the Bionic and I'm getting it this afternoon when I'm off work (the rep is holding one for me, woo!)

I've looked around and can't find and solid documentation (filters at work also prevent me viewing a lot of sites) on what exactly is grandfathered in and what isn't when it comes to data plans.

My current phone is the LG env3 . I do NOT have the $30/mo unlimited data plan. However, my plan (from 2008) is the Nationwide Premium 900, which includes "unlimited monthly megabytes" and in a price plan pdf i found from 2008 it says "data sent or received: included"

I called verizon and was told by a csr that the only plans that were grandfathered in were the $30/month ones and anything older than that (even though mine says unlimited data) was not included.

Has anybody had any experience with this or know another route I should be going? I asked if she could provide something in writing like a memo on the subject and she said she spoke to a supervisor and none exist, and the only thing they have to go by is the webpage allowing the transfer or not.

I'd like to figure this out before I go in to get my phone tonight as I'll need to re-do my plan for sure.

Thanks in advance.

Basic phone data plans DO Not count for grandfathering. You will have to go with one of the tiered plans for smartphones

^ This. Smartphone data plans are different from basic phone data plans. You need to change your data plan, so you won't get unlimited.

That's what I feared. I called back to VZW and talked to somebody else and they said the same thing.

Oh well. I doubt I'll go over the 2 gig limit but I was hoping for the best.

Thanks for the responses you guys!

I will put this on everything I have.

I upgraded from an LG Versa yesterday to the Samsung Charge. I was able to keep my unlimitewd data. I am going to trade in my Charge before my 14 days are up most likely tomorrow. I received a text message from verizon about the $100 trade-in promo, so I called and spoke with a rep. When asked about the unlimited data plan, I was told I could keep it. I ended up speaking with 5 different reps. 3 out of 5 told me I could keep it. On 9/7/2011, I was told that the promo for me to keep my unlimited would end on thursday. So I had to do what I had to do. I have my unlimited data on my charge, and I am blessed happy... Bionic will be mine soon.
