I just ordered a galaxy nexus from google play and currently I'm on an AT&T plan that doesn't have data or text, just talk. In fact I have data and text blocked from my account so I won't even be accidently charged for it. Can I just pop the sim into the galaxy nexus and use it or will I be evetually put onto a data plan by AT&T?

You should be able to use it just fine. If you have data and text completely blocked, then the phone won't try to connect and you'll be good. When you pop the SIM in, the APNs should be set just fine for regular talk/GPRS connection, and you'll be off to the races. All syncing will happen when you're connected to WiFi.

it should just work fine if you pop in the sim but just to be safe after switching on your phone disable data in settings-->data usage-->> OFF

Thanks for the replies. So just to make sure, AT&T definitely won't force me onto a data plan? I thought they did for all smart phones. Do they not have the IMEI or something for the galaxy nexus if bought straight from Google Play?

No they don't have the IMEI of the galaxy nexus. I highly doubt they'll be able to detect and put you on a data plan if you're not trying to use data.
