Whats going on here? I've been on 1X for the past 3 weeks! Did rooting have something to do with this? My speeds are abysmal. I read somewhere that no matter what your data speeds are on it will say 3G even if its lower but if you root it will show that your on 1X. Im close to just paying the $350 cancellation fee and getting rid of this phone on ebay.

Did you have slow data on your previous device?

Did you have Sprint previously?

It sounds like a Sprint problem, not a device problem. Maybe VZW would be better where you live.

It could be a few different things but was your data speeds like this before rooting?

First off, try flashing a stock rom (or a different rom) and see if maybe the rom you flashed got screwed up somehow. If your just rooted but running stock, update your Profile and PRL. If that doesn't work, factory reset your phone. It might be something simple ya know? If data is still bad, call sprint and have them send a refresh/reset signal to your phone (it's called something else but I forgot). That fixed my slow data with my S2 one time.

Also, you do know they are working on the new vision network right? As they work and upgrade towers, data in places are going to get bad before they get extremely better.

There is nothing trollish about my post. I just searched the OP's history. He used to be a T-Mobile customer.

All major carriers offer the S3.

I believe the OP's problems are due to Sprint's coverage, not the S3.

If he were to choose a different carrier (and an S3), he would probably have faster data speeds.

VZW does offer the best LTE network, so they might be a better choice for an S3.

See, but ask more questions other than "did you have sprint previously?" before bashing sprint. Did he root and INSTALL a different rom? Did he accidentally turn off CDMA? There are so many factors but there's usually a fix for this problem, albeit not all the time though. He could have a bad unit but I don't think so.

But just because he "rooted" and now his data is messed up, doesn't mean that verizon is the fix. Besides, not to be mean, but your post sounds like a VZW commercial in a Sprint Galaxy S3 forum. Can you hear me now?

Gator352 i think you might have read it wrong. TO me when reading his reply it didnt seem like he was nocking Sprint or trolling. Its a valid question.

I also agree with other responses. For proper testing you need to go back to stock and update profile and PRL.
Also it might help to test with CDMA only versus CDMA/LTE..

Flash back to stock and run some tests and then get back to us with some results..

You seem to be hypersensitive there Gator352. It didn't sound like he was bashing Sprint at all. Verizon just has a lot more towers out there than Sprint does. That's simply a fact. Where I live the Sprint coverage is great, but if I lived an hour away where my folks are, I'd be on Verizon because Sprint has poor coverage there. It's not some huge smack on Sprint. It's simply a fact of who has towers where. Chill.

Look. He didn't try to help the OP one bit to try to fix his problem. All he did was say OH it's a Sprint problem, maybe VZW will be better for you. How the he** does he know without asking questions that VZW will be better for him?

This is a sprint S3 forum and someone with a lumia comes in and says your problem is with sprint so VZW will be better for you....I don't take kindly too.

OK, they have more towers. That's not in dispute. But it also doesn't help the OP fix his problem cause maybe....just maybe...VZW has bad coverage where he is too since he hasn't answered back.

Not necessary to bash people. Nothing in his post was inflammatory, unlike yours.

I wouldn't think that rooting should have anything to do with poor speeds. Are you still running the Team Sonic Freegs3 ROM, or did you switch? You could always restore to stock and see if that helps...

If someone is trolling, it would be gator by getting all bent out of shape just because someone has a different phone than what this thread is about.
If you really want to help the OP, the first question to ask is what area is he at? Everyone knows that sprint has a scrappy 3G. Yes, it's getting better. And yes, eventually they will have LTE all over. But the fact is that unless you live in those 20 markets where the network has improved or gotten LTE, then chances are your 3G speed are as fast as molasses.

Just be patient. It will be better. And if you can't take it, then is safe to recommend going with a different company. Just research to make sure their coverage is good in your area before you switch.

PSSSST. Had nothing to do with his freaking phone. It did have everything to do with automatically assuming it's a sprint problem without asking questions to actually help the OP. And besides, I DID ask questions....in the very next thread...about the OP's problem which is what this thread was about. If your going to bash me, at least read first.

How about it also may be network vision issues. 3g on Sprint is being upgraded to 4g so until that happens make sure you buy in a area that will be upgraded with in a few months.

I'm in Chicago, which is being upgraded to Network Vision (which includes LTE and an upgraded 3G). The speeds in just about every area of the city are horrible and have been for almost a month. I'm told Sprint is monitoring the towers that have already been converted before putting them online. Some of the problems I'm having are caused because the tower closest to me is down (so I've been told the many times I;ve called CS). I was in one of the far-south suburbs a week ago that has already been converted and picked up LTE there. It's very fast! Unfortunately, Verizon has a year and a half head start on Sprint for LTE. So I suggest you check on the progress of LTE upgrading in your area and make your decision from there.

By the way, my Sprint air card can barely get on the 3G network (no WiMax at all). My GS III actually get better reception.

I've checked my settings and everything is good. I researched it and found that other people who were rooted reported the same issue. Appearently Sprint phones will always show no lower then 3G even if your on 1G. If a person roots it bypasses this and shows what your network speeds really are. This is speculation of course. The only way for me to know is to go to a Sprint store and find out or find another person with the same phone who is also rooted in Las Vegas. If I go to a Sprint store I will have to go back to stock and not let them know I was rooted. If I go back to stock it will just read 3G and they will say "What the hell are you talking about?".

They're telling me November...at the earliest...in the loop. I'm in 60611 and it's the frigging Cone of Silence.

I'm in 60614, West Lakeview. I was prepared to deal with the slow 3G on my phone while waiting for the upgrade. But cannot deal with it on my laptop because they took WiMax offline in my area too. All I get is excuses and "be patient." (I was told end of August. lol) About a week ago, I was in the far south burbs and they have Network Vision already. My phone automatically connected with LTE and was super fast. Then, I came home...
