Data Sync Settings Grayed Out / Gmail

From stock 2.1 to OTA Froyo.

I just ran my 3rd factory reset and my phone has finally stopped freezing up at the home screen. I was even able to set up my Gmail.

No more control over data sync / push to email accounts? Why keep the setting/option if it's to be unusable? Or is Gmail now instant push to 2.2 as a rule? (Didn't think that was possible, but maybe it is..?)

Wi-Fi troubles are next to be tackled.

I'd still love to have 2.1 back. If my resets / freezing / wifi issues weren't bad enough, no NFL app. Oh the pain.

My bad. I see that with update is standard for Gmail to be pushed automatically.

Wondering if anyone else is having the problem that your "sync icon" seems to grey out randomly for no reason? After receiving several gmails it seems that it turns sync off (!?) and I have to turn it back on to get emails??

Anyone notice this?
