I've recently switched from a BB Storm 1 to the Droid. I must be getting more use out of the droid because I'm half way through my billing period, and I've already used up 300 Meg of data. With my Black Berry I hardly ever reached 80 or 90 Meg a month.

Anyone notice this when they switched?

Yea I've noticed this too. I also came from a BB and my data usage never topped 60 Megs. I looked at my bill and noticed I've used a little over 1 gig for last month.

Same here but I'm inclined to believe its due in part to an increased use of the (out-flippin'-standing) browser on the Droid as compared to the browser on the Blackberrys.

Yea its definitely the browser. On my BB it felt like a chore to use the browser so I hardly used it. The Droids browser is awesome though.

Well yeah, you finally have a useful phone :)

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned this yet, but Blackberries are also proxied. The proxy reduces filesizes for stuff like images, and the apps are generally designed as such. With Droid you're on a straight pipe to the internet.

Lol, I'm like the OP. I had around 130-140MB And now I am up to 500MB
I think it has to do with downloading all the apps and yes I do use my web browser a lot more. Plus all the searching from the search button

Definetly due to the browser, and youtube for me :)

I grabbed my wifes Curve last night and did some updates on some of her apps and WOW that thing is a turtle compared to the Droid. :)

ha, I was burning through 2 GB/month on my storm with streaming iheartradio for 2 hours every morning. I'm already up to a gig in only a week on the droid. lol I do find myself browsing the web on it more than my laptop though.

Yeah I'm almost at 3 GB in around 3/4 of a month lol. I NEVER had anything CLOSE to that with my S1 lol.

I have an idea :) Maybe we're all using our droids so much more now for all things cause its fast and rocks :) That would do it!

Uhh, you guys totally breezed past my other post...

Proxies, that's why other handsets pulled such little data. The blackberry NOC takes a webpage or other types of data and reprocesses the images to be smaller. It's similar to the Google mobilizer that a lot of other types of smart-dumbphones had.

Droid's are on a straight pipe to the internet with no proxy.

hopefully verizon's network doesn't pull an at&t. haha

I really don't see that happening. I happen to know several subcontractors that operate towers for VZ, Sprint, etc and they tell me that VZ's backhaul is by far the best.

I'm not really up on all that but I wouldn't imagine that proxies would limit gigabytes worth of data to just a few hundred megs. Besides since the Droid mobile web browsing is way up. There's been several blog posts about it here and on Engadget.
