Data use

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone on the Verizon network. Here's my question.
When I'm traveling, and both Wi-Fi and Data are switched on,when I'm driving through an area with both Wi-Fi and Data available, which one will the smartphone select? In other words, if both are available, which one is the default, wifi or data? Thanks.

WiFi will be the preferred connection for everything except MMS whenever you are actually connected to a network. If WiFi is available but you're not actually connected to it, it will use data instead.
