OK, I may be asking the same question someone else has already asked but I can't find it. When I am not on WiFi, why can't I use data? This is disappointing to me.

What phone do you have? Most Android phones can. The iPhones can't unless you enable VoLTE on the iPhone 6.

The reason you can't is Verizon's data and voice networks are different. The traditional voice network does not allow it. Most phones get over this by having two antennas. The iPhone and some android phones only have 1.

There are some options for simultaneous simultaneous simultaneous voice and data :

-volte for simultaneous voice and data over 4GLTE
-svlte for simultaneous voice and data over 4GLTE and cdma voice
-svdo for simultaneous voice and data over 3g data and cdma voice.

Some older phones supported svdo.
Newer Android are a mix, some support svlte and or volte. Some may support volte only after an update.

The list of phones that currently have volte:

Just for some clarification, if the phone doesn't have volte then it needs two cellular paths to accommodate svlte (simultaneous voice and data over 4GLTE and cdma voice). All lte phones require 2 lte antennas but this doesn't necessarily mean two cellular paths. The iPhone has two antennas but just one cellular path.

I have the Sony Xperia z3v. Everytime I am using 4G LTE, and make a call, it says no data connection available.

The z3v doesn't support simultaneous voice and data. There are Androids that support it though if you need it.

I don't think it's the phone. I have the T-Mobile version Xperia Z3. VOLTE works
Wonderfully. In your settings - calls settings -VOLTE (box checked)?

Really? The Z3 on T-Mobile works great. I stand corrected sorry if it doesn't work

T-Mobile is a different standard though .. So that's why.
