I just deactivated my X and reactivated a tiny old clam shell in the X's place. I carry my tab everywhere and have only been using the X for calls. I figured I would see what happens. It keeps the data costs pretty similar as just carrying the X alone. We'll see how it goes....

Good idea! If Samsung would relent and let us have the phone in the tab without rooting it, it would be easier.
Amazon has an unlocked tab for about $900. I've considered buying it just do I can have the phone, but not sure of how it would work on T-mobile (i like there data plan prices).

I'm sure this is exactly why the carriers disabled voice on the SGT before US release. I came to the same logical conclusion a week after getting the SGT, but I'm keeping my Evo for work. But my next phone will be chosen solely on the basis of the camera. I don't really need the other bells and whistles nor do I need a 4.3" screen.

This is the same reason RIM forces you to tether the Playbook to a Blackberry for email and texting. That's really going to doom the Playbook as a niche device.

I have always had to carry a little daytimer with me because I can't talk on the phone and book appointments at the same time. I am going to leave the daytimer at home this week and see what its like to use the calendar on the tab. Its really finger friendly. If that works then I'll be pretty happy with the switch. I really like the camera on the tab so going from the X to this is OK in that regard. Great indoor shots on the tab.

The Europe tab will not work with tmobile 3g as far as I know. I actually kind of like just having the dumbphone option (I know sacrilege) for places where I don't want to be totally connected. I get in trouble sometimes foe having my face burried in my phone. Again, we'll se

I thought I would post a quick update. I have been carrying the tab and the dumbphone for a while now and I am very happy with the set up. Def not for everyone but its cool for me. I picked up the x to check email over wifi while my kid was using the tab and it felt sooo little.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Have you found that you miss your droid x?

I don't miss it at all. I think the tabs camera and video is better anyway. Other than that its just a bigger screen with better resulition. It still fits in my pocket too. I actually saw a billboard for the Tab tonight where its just sticking out of a back jeans pocket and i was like "yes! Thats how you advertise this thing"

I've been thinking about doing the same thing when my contract is up. A Net10 dumb phone runs $15/mo. Considering all the time I spend on wifi, Verizon's $20/gb/month plan is way more than I need. So, $36/mo vs $70 (taxes included in both cases) for my Evo alone (I'm rooted, so I'm not including the hotspot fee which now gives my Tab access everywhere).

Just remember Verizon charges for texts. Tmo and sprint don't. But, yeah, its a good deal like that.
