Ugh what a PITA. This script to remove previous versions is making it act flakey.

Just open up ES file explorer, go to menu -> settings root options, and check both boxes (use HIAPK style). Then navigate to /system/app and click on market and/or maps (depending on what isn't installed). This will re-install them from /system/app.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll get a fix for that.

Sorry...didn't work. Only thing that says "market" is "marketupdater.apk". Installed it twice, and tried installing it from a gapps zip from cm7, rebooting each time just to make sure. Market never showed up in my app drawer...

Sent from my phone...excuse the spelling mistakrs.

Look for something that says vending.

OK, did some googling, found it's impossible to make Bluetooth talk to Voice Search.

I want to keep your button remapping, but I want the sprint voice dialer back on the phone (but not mapped to a button) so bluetooth can work with it....any idea how to do that?

Hmmm, tried deleting the /usr from the voice_dialer.zip and flashing it, (disabling signature verification)....didn't seem to do anything. Still no voice dialer app and bluetooth won't activate it... :-\

Alrighty, I figured out the answer to my question, figured I'd post it in case anyone else has the same desires.

First, activate root in ES explorer like nick explains:

Just open up ES file explorer, go to menu -> settings root options, and check both boxes (use HIAPK style).

Then download voice_dialer.zip from the nROM website. Unzip the zip and copy out the VoiceDialer.apk from voice_dialer.zip/system/app. Using ES file explorer, paste the apk into /system/app on your phone. This "installed" it for me, (I tried clicking on it to install it, and it said it couldn't, but it shows up in my app drawer now). I had to reboot the phone then for the bluetooth to be able to activate the voice dialer...but now it all works. Custom key mapping, still can use bluetooth to voice dial.

how does this rom compare to ThundeRom? thunderom is the only custom rom ive used and thinking about switching

They are similar in nature, both being built from the same source (Official Sprint/LG VD) but nick tweaks some things we don't and we tweak some thing he doesn't. Does that make one better than the other? Nope, not IMHO. It means if the things he tweaks are more important to you and as a user, use nROM. Keep in mind if you end up liking nrom but want the theme of Thunder ... you can find the ThundeROM theme in the LEGO thread. Conversely, if you like ThundeROM but like the theme of nROM, you can find that theme in the LEGO ROM thread.

I've used multiple android devices and typically what happens is theres a "fight". A bunch of developers fight each other for who can do what better faster and better than the rest. That competition prevents information sharing between developers. In the Optimus S world, Nick, myself, and Beezy all have an established understanding that what we do is bigger than 3 guys, it's about the 1,000's of people who use the work. None of us have any qualms about sharing info to help the other. In fact, ask nick ... if we have a nice release he's the first to gtalk me and let me know, conversely, if he has one I'm gtalking him calling him names i cant say on here;) (because i know he's pushing my limits too)

As an end user, you should be proud to own the Optimus S. If you like nROM, man i don't hate you at all, i dig the fact you're willing to explore. If you like ThundeROM, i love you!!! kidding!!! Bottom line is enjoy it because I'm not sure the same information sharing system will happen again anytime soon on another phone.

Hey KSmith:
In TR, you did "SD card read write speed changed from 128kb to 2048kb" - what exactly did you change for this?
Also for the the TWS fix, are you just putting that app in or did something in the source code actually change to reflect this?

We (Beezy and I) added information to our gumbo script (created by gbhil) to make this happen. You see, gbhil started this project called the gumbo ROM and that ROM had a shell script in etc/init.d that would run on boot and tweak the system for maximum performance. We've taken that, added our own twist, and tuned it for our phones. We plan on the next release pumping some steriods into that script.

For TWS, we are currently using an APK to accomplish the flight mode. No tweaks to the framework. Thats coming, nick and i will be chatting tonight on that topic.

hey Nick

1.6.3 only makes it to the nROM screen after flash and sits there for ever,
the bar below stops moving after a bit and it just hangs.

comming from 1.6.2.... with wipe data, and without.

I will redownload and try again!

any luck

Can you guys logcat it and attach the file for nick? If someone reports an issue that i couldn't duplicate it, I would really need a logcat of someone that is having the issue.

I'm not trying to speak for him and he may or may not have an idea of whats going on but if it doesn't instantly strike him of what the issue is, a logcat is a good start.

Thanks in advance.

ADB logcat. If it says "waiting for m ready" or something like that over and over again then you just need a battery pull & reboot. If it loops at "ANDROID RUNTIME START" then you have problems.

If you don't have time for that silly business and have an earlier version working then I understand too hah. I've just been rage releasing builds anyways.

Thank You to you, Beezy, Nick and Zefie for the work you guys do. What you guys do for all us users, makes me very happy that i chose the Optimus S as my first android phone. Thank you again.

I am having the same issue as I can't get this latest version to load. I have used nROM in the past as well as thunderrom, cm7 scott, cm7 aosp. I am running the latest Xenia recovery to. Here is what I do:

1. Wipe data/cache (always do its my habit)
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. flash latest 1.6.3
5. reboot

The phone reboot and starts loading like normal. It then gets to the nROM splash screen with the progress bar moving, eventually however that stops and the phone becomes frozen. I have tried pulling the battery and restarting but same thing happens it eventually freezes at the nROM splash screen. As I said I have ran nROM in the past with no issues so this has me confused a bit....

I am running the latest VD from LG and my phone was one of the originals before they switched displays...

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I do a couple of more steps than you do. I also go to the mount menu and format everything except the sdcard there. That usually stops any bootloops I am having. I think the biggest thing is formatting system. Give that a try and report back.

Holy crap. Just checked out your Tweaks script. That is AWESOME. Way cooler than flashing buildprops. Can't wait for LCD density support!
