It may have more to do with the decline of the AC blog. There have been a number of threads bemoaning the drop in quality of the writing and subject matter of articles, and on top of that, comments for articles have not been possible for a while, due to a slow transition with the blog website platform.
And I dunno, maybe people are tired of the same goofball replying to so many of the posts.(And no, @mustang7757, I'm not talking about you.

Very true Laura. All you have to do if you need help is ask some 15 year old kid on the street. They know more than the older generation. LOL.I suspect it is because Android phones (and iPhones as well) have become commodities that everyone owns. When smartphones were new, there were more people who were new users that needed help from the early adopters (those of us who were tech afficianados). Now that everyone and his mother has a smartphone and has been using it for years, there are fewer questions or concerns. The phones really do 'just work'. If you head over to iMore, you'll notice the same trend.
