Death grip issue on Droid X

I tried holding it every imaginable way and I could not get it to even drop one bar and my dBm isn't changing either.

I call BS on this. Following the exact same steps as those in the video, not a single change in signal reception ... Well except for the one time it went up a bar. I suspect shenanigans from the (fumble-fingered, phone-dropping, poor-video-skills) author of that YouTube video.

The fact that people are making such a huge deal out of voice calls is silly since I bet a huge majority of users of these phones and even iPhones use them more for data than voice calls.

If you have a problem with dropping calls then you should prolly take it to the store and see what they can do or get a new one (or go to the Galaxy) but if its just a problem with the bars dropping on the screen, then don't look at the screen while calling someone :)

Try it with your phones. Even if you have a strong Verizon signal, it drops like a rock in seconds. Try it now and reply back.

Hey man, my buddy and I just tried it, holding our phones every way possible and can't get it to drop any bars.

If you've only tried it at your house, you may want to try it in other locations.
If you're at the outer edge of the signal it could cause the signal strength to fluctuate.

I don't think you're trolling and do you think you see this issue on your phone, but looking at the amount of replies that haven't been able to reproduce this, and from my friend's and my experience I'd say it's either the area you're in or a problem with YOUR Droid X, not ALL Droid Xs..

OK...

So I just tried this and didnt see any drop in the bars at all... Held it just the way it was in the video... No problems right??? WRONG...
I looked at the dB's and as I got to it I got a phone call... So I put it on speaker and went back to see what it said and looks fine -67... Pick it up and it drops to -80... WOW a 13 dB drop just from picking up the phone and looking at the bars it drops two bars... This could be a problem in places that get weaker reception... Maybe a software update can fix this like the radio fix for the Droid 1... but who knows right now it isnt that bad of an issue but we will see what happens...

Bye the way when I hold it like the video with someone on the phone it gets as low as -92...

I did it about a dozen times, the largest drop I got was from -89 to -94 (and that was cupping it in both hands against my raised leg and tucked against my abdomen. It's still excellent reception, so I'm gonna say either the device was faulty, or else the user was...

a) the kid in the video sounds like he's about 5 and b) my phone didn't drop any dBm in the about screen or bars, so I call BS as well. One time my dBm actually went up a few, rather than down.

I think this is a lame attempt to try to falsely embroil the DX into the iPhone 4 antenna controversy. It won't get too far, because there isn't any real correlation, IMO.

I agree...since the problems with iPhone came to light there seems to be a lot of finger pointing. My son and I both have the DX and have experienced no problems with the signal strength what so ever.

They video is now blocked out with "there is no problem with the DX, I made a stupid mistake" written over top.

Based on everyone's feedback and the OP's modification of the video stating the reported problem was a mistake,

I think it's safe to say, this phone does NOT have this problem.
