Debating on Losing the iPhone and Getting a RAZR - Thoughts?

I was in the same boat. Had iPhone 4s but then tried the razr and fell in love. So far it was a great decision.

Thinking of making the leap myself... Have had Droids before the iPhone.... just wondering if you are still in love with your Razr? Thanks,

It really depends what is your preference. IPhone is like a vintage car. Bare, slow, limited, small but heavy, overpriced, behind the curve, poor functionality, your grandma knows how to drive it. But boy isn't it pretty and so well defined. You definitely won't have a high speed crash in it but if you tap it just a bit, the cheap glass will shatter. However, that slow ride will be the best you ever took.

Razr/Android on the other hand is like a prototype electric car, such as Tesla. This device is packed with the latest and fastest but sometimes you wonder whether this is where we are going, why they decided on this or that. It looks pretty but depending on which unit you get it may either be flawless or the headlights won't work (referring to the black screen blotches here). The ride is a thrill though but two months later you realize there is a new model out there, with a bigger battery that leaves you in a dust while you scramble for a power outlet.

I have the maxx and my wife has the 4s. When I use her phone its like taking a step back in time. Go with the Maxx and you'll never look back! You must do the Maxx though coming from an iphone due to the battery issues on 4g. Enjoy!!

Wow! Well said! Thanks for the input! I went from the OG Droid, DINC, and Droid X to the iPhone 4 so I can relate to what u are talking about. Just getting the itch to give Android another chance.

Yeah. I'm in the same boat still. Went from the Razr to the Nexus to a 4S. I can't stop the urge to go back to Android. Something about it keeps drawing me back.

What made you switch from the RAZR?

About a week ago, I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet, and had to re-activate my Thunderbolt. I'm due for an upgrade in a few weeks and I'm stuck between the HTC Rezound and RAZR (or RAZR MAXX). So I'd love to hear your opinions on the RAZR as compared to the 4S, which is a great phone, but just too darned small.

My #1 issue with the Razr was the battery. I had to charge just about every day around 3pm. That drove me nuts. Even with a lot of things turned off, and mostly on 3G during the day, the battery just sucked. I was also not a huge fan of the camera. I thought it was slow and didn't take the best pictures. My iPhone 4 with a 5mp camera took MUCH better pics. So I decided to switch to the Nexus. The removable battery and the shutter speed drew me to the Nexus. I got better battery life with the Nexus, too, but it was also nice knowing I could just toss in a spare battery if I needed. Overall I liked the Nexus better, but I had the mic issue as well as screeching during calls. If I couldn't use the Nexus as a phone I didn't want it. So I went to the 4S. It's tried and true and works well. It is just boring as all get out.

Let me know if you want to know anything else.

I know I'll miss the excellent 4S camera, and I already miss Siri (used it all the time). The MAXX takes care of the battery problems, though. I'm leaning toward the Rezound with extended battery, because the screen is spectacular and the camera is supposed to be quite good as well. But with the extended battery, the thing is almost too big and heavy. I thought about the Galaxy Nexus, but need the ability to add additional storage (and if I get another 4S, I'll get the 64 GB this time - my 32 was nearly full).

I've been using Tasker on my Tbolt, and it's renewed my initial geeky interest in Android as a platform. I can automate darned near everything with it, in ways I desperately missed as an iPhone user.

But the iPhone is beautiful, stable, and reliable.

Thankfully I have time to decide. My Tbolt is working rather well now that I've installed Tasker.

Yeah, I've been debating on going to the Maxx. I loved the Razr besides the battery and the camera. I think I could possibly live with the camera now that the battery has been fixed. But at the same time, I'm not sure I could go back to a skinned Gingerbread after using the Nexus and stock ICS. Then I've also debated on going to the Rezound for the screen and camera. But I would have the same issue about a skinned GB.

It's a tough call. I think I prefer Android, I just can't find the right fit.

I generally agree. At least HTC Sense is mostly attractive and useful - much moreso than the strange animations on Moto's latest iteration of NotBlur. The ideal for me would be something like the Rezound running stock ICS. Who knows what HTC will do to ICS?

I've been looking at the LG Spectrum, but good lord, the thing is so physically ugly and cheap-looking. The Rezound beats it to heck in the looks department.

I have to agree with most people on here about the iPhone being boring. I just switched from an iPhone 4 to a RAZR (not Maxx) three days ago. I bought a used one off Ebay along with the car dock.

The RAZR is my first Android phone and so far, I am pretty impressed. I didnt find the iPhone 4 to be slow, or to have any "problems", except being boring. But android has showed me some things that I didnt know I was missing.

So far, The RAZR has given me decent battery life, not great, but decent. I get slightly better than half of the battery life that I had on the iPhone4, using it the same way I did. (I kinda wished I would have paid extra for a MAXX). It's no biggie though; I had a Palm Pre before the iPhone, so I can deal with having to charge every night.

I have it set to 3G only (no 4G in area) and to turn off background data when the phone is still (and screen off) through smart actions. Smart Actions are awesome, btw, as it reminds me of my old blackberry profile days... one area that the iPhone is seriously lacking. Some people have complained about the width of the phone, but it works great for me: nice and lightweight in my pocket.

Other pleasant surprises include the car dock, which is tremendously better than any other iPhone dock ive seen. Navigation is awesome, internet radio is surprisingly good, and i find that I actually WANT to use it when i get in the car (the iphone became a hassle to plug in, plug headphone jack in, clip into dock). I leave the motorola dock in place and only have to place the phone in dock and click the USB plug into the top. Sound and starting the car app is automatically taken care of.

While the RAZR is nice, it is not without flaws. I have had to reboot it twice, force closes (3 times), and the bluetooth doesnt like to remember settings (I want my phone to deny A2DP access to my headset, because I want music to play through the speakers - I have to go turn off A2DP every time). While looking on eBay, I was also concerned by the amount of broken screens I saw (This just makes me concerned about how tough it is). Also, The device does get a bit warm, which im slightly worried about it sitting in the windshield dock in the georgia/florida heat as a GPS.

Things i wish the RAZR had: Bigger battery (should have gone MAXX), Better bluetooth control (fixable wit app?), and easier multitasking / closing of apps (should be fixed in ICS). I think thats a minimal amount of complaints for any phone, especially since all of them likely can be fixed. I think I am going to keep the RAZR and that way I have a fair amount of time to get used to android before the iPhone5 comes out... then I can decide which direction to go. :)

I couldn't agree more. I'm using Tasked and the amount of stuff I've automated is simply amazing. It's like Blackberry profiles on steroids!
