Installing now. 413MB. They really need to do something about this optimization process. It takes forever!!!!

It's the A/B Partition system, it takes a while.

A/B system updates, also known as seamless updates, ensure a workable booting system remains on the disk during an over-the-air (OTA) update. This approach reduces the likelihood of an inactive device after an update, which means fewer device replacements and device reflashes at repair and warranty centers. Other commercial-grade operating systems such as ChromeOS also use A/B updates successfully.

For more information about A/B system updates and how they work, see Partition selection (slots).

A/B system updates provide the following benefits:

  • OTA updates can occur while the system is running, without interrupting the user. Users can continue to use their devices during an OTA—the only downtime during an update is when the device reboots into the updated disk partition.
  • After an update, rebooting takes no longer than a regular reboot.

Nothing yet for Verizon in Connecticut. There's no specific file for VZW this time on the Google page. I wonder what the hold up is?

I wish android manufacturers would get together and tell the carriers to pound sand like Apple does. Apple releases an update and it is available to every device on every carrier simultaneously. I hate that since the Tensor chips, the carriers have been able to get back into the loop. Back in Nexus and Pixels through 5, it was very rare there were carrier forks of updates.

Every update cycle (especially the quarterlies and version updates) I am tempted to jump to the dark side.

For the 99% of users who do not care about updates and would not know how to pull one, I can understand a staggered rollout. But for tech enthusiasts (nerds) who do care, make the damn Check for Updates button work. Again, I come back to Apple being able to get its updates available to all devices simultaneously makes google look ridiculous.

I just went ahead and side loaded it. Nothing different in the version number from the Verizon site (above) and the developer page. Took about 15 minutes with no issues after reboot.

I probably will tomorrow when I have a bit of free time
