Declined calls: Reply with message via WhatsApp

I have set my default messaging app to WhatsApp as that is what the majority of my friends use. However, when I get a missed call alert, and I have the option to reply with an text message, it does not route through WhatsApp and instead uses the stock HTC Messages app.

The only option I see is "Settings > Call > (Under Other Settings) Declined calls. And this option is checked.

Other apps (like Any.Do) have the same feature as well, to provide a set of options after a missed or declined call (call back / message / set a reminder). However, even these default to the Messages app.

Anyone have any ideas on how to force it to use WhatsApp?
