Deep Sleep ?

I was having issues with my battery draining very quickly so I got the Better Battery app, so have now solved the battery issues (was a widget)

Hows does deep sleep work? I was under the impression it needed a special cover that had a magnet in it, when the cover is closed it activates deep sleep to save battery

I have the Nexus cover, the grey coloured one, which I dont think does anything special, when I check the stats for Better Battery it says it has been in Deep Sleep while the screen is off, and my battery is now great

Deep sleep is just a state the device goes into after a certain period of non use. It turns a lot of stuff off and powers down the CPU as much as possible.
