Default keyboard or ???

I used to use Swype. But switched to GBoard last year. I have a few gripes.

Unintended haiku. I swear. Lol.

I don't like that forward slash isn't on the primary keyboard. I also liked how back space on Swype would delete entire words, not just the last word. Other than that it's pretty good. For some reason it's running much better on the N10+ than it did on my N9.

SwiftKey

I've always used SwiftKey but for some reason it won't let me adjust the size. I prefer a short keyboard to see more screen and SwiftKey is the only one to provide that option. It won't let me pull it short anymore. Kind of annoyed right now.

Hmmm, both gboard and Samsung keyboard allow you to resize (go smaller) their keyboards. That's not a swiftkey only feature.

Used to use and love Swype, tried Swiftkey a few times and wanted to love it, but their swipe typing is garbage. I've used Gboard for the last few years and it's been solid

I'm using Samsung keyboard because you can use the spen to write and send messages instead of typing

SwiftKey for me and I like to put the special characters visible so they just need a long press to use thmr instead of using shift key to get another screen. I find this WAY WAY more efficient.

I see you are a newer user here - welcome to Android Central!

Regardless of what manufacturer-specific Android phone I've owned, I've downloaded and used Gboard and SwiftKey on almost every device and frequently switch between the two. For the past several months, I've been really into Gboard. It seems to meet my prediction/typing/formatting preferences than SwiftKey.

Yes but even on the smallest setting in Gboard it is still very tall. I prefer it smaller. And even SwiftKey doesn't do it anymore.

I always try to give the stock keyboard a chance when I first get it to see if there's improvement... never lol....so it's Gboard for me.

I too was annoyed with this, but I found a fix. Switch the resolution to FHD and go back to the SwiftKey settings. You can then make your SwiftKey keyboard smaller. Once you do, switch back to WQHD and the keyboard remains how you set it.
