Definitely July! [edit]

DBM you are the man! my anticipation was starting to fade for the bionic but you have resurrected it!! Cant wait for this thing. Keep the info coming!

My bad guys meant 4440. this is what my rep told me i didn't see this first hand. I just left work but I'll try to set up a meeting with her asap.
I need a good excuse though, don't want her to think important using her lol

Wowie zowie! That would rock. According to Anantech: OMAP4440 Specs: Dual 1.5GHz Cortex A9, 25% Faster GPU, HDMI 1.4 3D, 1080p60, 2x higher performance video playback, 50% increase in overall performance, 33% reduction in webpage load time.

Uhhmmm..... may be trouble in paradise. Droid-life posted VZW just rejected motos GB updates across the board and is sending moto back to rework and fix the bugs, could be several weeks for a fix. Will this push back Bionic or will they launch it w froyo? Rumor: Motorola Puts Gingerbread Builds on Hold for DROID2, Global, Etc. to Work Out Bugs - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Thanks for posting the link - that was interesting.

I read the comments following the story and it appears the GB upgrade for the Droid X has been filled with bugs and Motorola hasn't been able to fix them after a month's time. Props to Verizon for forcing Motorola to fix their mess before they update more phones with GB.

As before, I question if Motorola has the ability to deliver an outstanding device with the Bionic. So far 2011 has been nothing short of a failure for Motorola.

I wonder if maybe the reason the bionic was delayed was because of this and not just issues with battery life? I mean if a VZW rep came in with pricing and that I would imagine that it is finalized but who knows.

Maybe that is why they unlocked the bootloader. I mean maybe they figure with an unlocked bootloader the devs will get the bugs fixed and people wont care as much about it being released with bugs. I know I would personally be alright with a few bugs if the bootloader is unlocked since I can just run a custom rom and kernal.

If the rumor is true, it may only apply to older phones with different specs and all. I'm not going to worry yet. I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of instances of new phones being released with new Android builds while older phones languished for months getting their updates. And Gingerbread seems relatively problematic in that respect as I don't recall seeing many upgrades yet from the various manufacturers to date.

I think GB is the primary reason for the delay with the Bionic. We all know that Battery Life is a concern with the majority of Android devices, but some how we learn to adapt to our devices. We are not that forgiving when it comes to the latest software.

Agree I think it is just the older phones. I mean since they have been working on this for months I am sure they worked on a different build since it will have the new blur and also it most likely is the same blur that is on the bionic with gb so we shall see. I think both verizon and moto know they are losing out by not releasing this phone and the longer it goes the more they lose out on a true monster of a phone for their droid line that hasnt been seen since the original droid.

Thanks for all the info -

FYI, there is no OMAP 4440 any more, TI "renamed" the 4440 to 4460. So, it is either a 4430 or 4460.

The 4430 is clocked up to 1GHz and the 4460 is clocked up to 1,5GHz.

We have already heard from reliable sources that the Bionic will not be clocked at 1.5GHz - we did see some benchmark pics showing the Bionic at 1.0 GHz.

The Droid 3 is supposed to be running the OMAP 4430.

I personally would love to see an underclocked 4460 in the Bionic (and of course an unlocked bootloader to run custom kernels) ;)
