Delayed new Gmail alert

Does anyone have issue with delayed new Gmail alert on the Essential Phone running the Gmail app? I just switched over to the Essential Phone but still running my old Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone simultaneously. The Samsung gives new Gmail alert right away whereas the Essential Phone gives no alert unless I hit the power button to wake it up or it's usually 5 to 10 minutes late. Any idea? Thanks.

Go to Settings-Battery and in the 3 dots at the top right click on Battery optimization and be sure to have the Gmail app as "Not optimized".

Not an exclusive issue for the Essential, we (a lot to count) have been suffering from this since last year with Nougat release, it may be related to the new Doze settings but is strange that with the amount of people using the huge different phones having the same issue Google hasn't fixed this yet.

Still with the Not optimized setting I still sometimes have the issue but definitely a lot less than without it.

I'm still getting this issue from time to time. Hopefully the Oreo update will fix it.

I'm still experiencing this Gmail delay issue with Oreo 8.1.0 update.
