Delayed SMS Text Messages

I have had the Droid 2 since the day it went on sale. I have noticed that occassionally when people send me text messages, they are delayed anywhere from 15 minutes to as long as 3 hours. This happens with different people (not just one). When I finally do receive the text, I will receive 3 or 4 at the same time, like they were backlogged.
I reported this to Verizon Wireless. They "turned it into the engineers" and gave me a ticket number. They found no problems (although they did see when a text was sent that I didn't receive it for over 2 hours). Their solution was to send me a new phone. I am now using the new phone - guess what?? It happened again - delayed receiving of texts.
This is driving me crazy...
Any thoughts? Solutions? Happening to anyone else?
THANKS

Yes. Me too. I also have a Droid 2 and it really pisses me off. I bought this phone on like August 23rd and I didn't experience this problem until the last couple of days.

I did drop the phone once, giving it a nasty hairline screen crack ... which can only barely be seen anyway so whatever. So I'm not sure if Verizon will give me a new phone as I wouldn't doubt them to write it off as a complication of that one drop.

It's so frustrating ... I actually googled the problem and signed up to this website only because of your post. This is EXACTLY the issue I have.

I bought the phone in South Jersey but I'm living in Philly right now.

I was coming on the forums to ask this exact same question for my Buddy.

The thing is, his sister has the droid 2 as well, Sitting next to each other while I tried to troubleshoot this for them the other day she gets texts right away, his take anywhere from 10minutes to several hours to deliver. This makes it seem like a faulty phone.

If he makes a call, all the texts go through right away and it works for awhile, then it begins to delay.

Anyone finding anything out about this please post what you discover here, it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

same here...thought it was my buddy's phone but i guess its mine after all. Hes got a blackberry and its a bit older so we thought it was his phone but it happens once in a while and we couldn't figure it out. very odd!

same problem here, the first sms exchange seems to work, but then there is a big delay.

I've only noticed this on my Incredible after the 2.2 Foryo update, and I'm using the stock sms application.

very annoying, I've missed some important text messages this way (over 4 hour delay) when I'm in a place with perfect 3G reception. The last exchange where this happened was with a friend earlier today (she uses Sprint), from downtown Columbus to a northern suburb of Columbus (so it's not even far!)

I've seen some other posts on this, so I hope Verizon fixes this asap!

I'm wondering if Verizon is beginning to have difficulty keeping up with all the new smartphones they are selling.

I've noticed just an overall slow down and sometimes hanging for a variety of things on the phone. It isn't just my D2 either. I've been noticing it on the Incredible as well.

So to me its either Verizon, or a problem with 2.2.

AT&T went through similar. Their solution was to create tiered data plans. Will Verizon do the right thing and expand their network if it is a network issue? Or will they start doing a tiered plan to discourage people from using data features as often?

I don't know about verizon not having the ability to keep up or not.

In our area no 3G Service (yet) so it's just voice and texts (and wifi)

My buddy finally called Verizon, the first rep didn't help him at all, said it's not their problem (even when his sister's d2 gets a text sitting right next to him and he doesn't) But he raised hell with second rep and they are sending a replacement phone....hopefully that works for him

I had this problem to. After I read this post a few days ago; I started hitting the net looking for answers, not thinking it was a Verizon problem, because everything worked great until I rooted and started uninstalling apps.

I found out I was unable to send or receive MMS. Turns out that after I installed Handcent, I deleated the app "Text Messaging" app thinking I did not need it anymore. WRONG!

I had to flash the original sbf's to the phone and start over. Once done all my msging was back to normal. Here is the link.

Tutorial/Walkthrough for flashing an .sbf to Droid 2 (unrooting/factory restore) - xda-developers

Assuming one or some of you may have done the same thing, this will get you fixed.

I'm on my second one, still with this problem. It works fine most of the day, then out of the blue, I get 4 or 5 texts... It's like when my gf had the glyde, it would store them... Not sure if it's the same bc her phone would say stored in her inbox... Usually calling voicemail will pull the msgs for a temp fix...

Would clearing data from the text messaging app make it completely non functional, or could that fix it... Any thoughts?

Hi Everyone, I think I can save the day here for all of us! Im no tech savy verizon genius, but apparently im smarter than all of them..;)
so this problem got me thinkn its a memory issue due to the fact that it doesn't delay right when u get the phone, it takes a month or two. Its like the phone slows down the more you use it. Its actually just like ur computer, it slows down cuz the browser collects lil data, cookies, each website u go to, without u knowing it, it builds up over time, and slows cuz of memory loss. So I figured, what the hell, its just like a comp, we use the browser, so I searched around for where the memory storage is monitored...this is what I did:
(1) go to settings (2) go to applications (3) manage applications (4) running applications this shows u allll the stuff that's currently running, kid of like the task manager on ur computer (5) go thru and find browser (6) select it and scroll down to cache, it will most likely show u alot of memory, then clear it by hitting clear cache..it will then read as '0.00B' (7) go thru everything and clear all caches that have anything but zero, and u can even uninstall things u don't use that eat up memory, but donnnt delete anything if u don't know what it is! And u can also 'force stop' programs u don't use too (8) once your finished, shutdown, remove battery, remove sd card, wait thirty seconds, put it all back, and restart (9) go directly to text messaging and send a cooperative friend :) a text, but put the time in parenthesis at the end, and see if they get it right away, then have them reply putting the time at the end of theirs too. Once you send a few and realize its on time,,,PROBLEM SOLVED! !!!
take that verizon, it took a bio major single mom to figure this out before ur geek squad! Lol!
I did this an hour ago..seems to have worked, but it may only be short term fix, but im just gonna keep clearing my cached items every so often, and I should be allset!
Hope I could help u guys!!! It was driving me insane too! If u want, u can always send me a happy donation to express ur thanks ;)

With lots of smarts and genius

It's not just smartphones that are having this problems right now on Verizon. I have a back-up LG Dare that I use sometimes due to its phenomenal battery life and I have been getting delayed texts on it as well. Sometimes two to three hours late. II saw some of you are from the Philly area...Delaware here so it is definitely a Verizon problem, not your devices.

The browser Cache clearing idea didn't seem to solve it for my Buddy.

I'm out in California, I don't think it's a device specific issue either, I think something's wrong with Verizon, but specific to his setup somehow, not to the phone. We were sitting next to several people with Verizon at a football game, in full sight of a verizon 3g tower (we could see it, turning off GPS it put us at the tower point on the maps)

Send a text to him and 3 others, three other get it in less than a minute, he gets it 17 minutes later.

IDK, he's getting pretty annoyed with it, I feel bad because I told him how awesome the Android platform is. Trying to convince him it's not really the phone now, haha.

Yea, thx 4 suggesting clearing cache, however I already do that a couple times during the day. To me it seems as if the network is idling/timing out/turning itself off. If I connect a voice call, I will receive many texts at once sometimes upwards of 10.
