Were these apps pre-installed? I know the Facebook app may have been; however, not sure if the Messenger app was pre-installed. Either way, go to system settings > applications > sort by all > Facebook and Messenger. See if you can uninstall or disable from this menu. Let us know if you have any questions.

Interesting, you're right. Can't uninstall fb... Wow that's really really terrible. Can disable it thru the app tray though. But still I can't believe a stupid social media app would be uninstallable. That makes zero sense to me.

AT&T has locked them into the phone like they do their own apps or like Samsung does with a few of their apps. The most you can do is disable them, would should kill most everything the apps do. It's the same way with the Uber app, though at least a great deal of people use Facebook compared to Uber.

Facebook likely paid AT&T to lock them onto the device. It's not the cardinal sin of bloatware since more then a vast majority likely use Facebook on the S6 but it's still annoying as hell. I ought to be able to do what I want with my $700+ phone without having to do things that will void the warranty and could brick the phone.

AT&T(also other providers) and Samsung have made some apps, system apps. You'll need to root and use an app such as TiB, App Master, etc., or use ADB to remove/uninstall them.
I would lean more to Samsung and FB being in cahootz rather than AT&T and FB. I have an international version S6, and FB is a system app on it. But I rooted and removed any of the 'system apps' I didn't want.

Has anyone figured out if it is possible to remove FB? I'm having sync issues with photos and the fix is to download an older version of FB. I can't because it's still on my phone, even when disabled. This is frustrating. Samsung needs to remedy this.

Hi,

I think FB and messenger apps are built-in to the OS of S6. There is no way to remove them completely. Not unless you are rooted or using custom rom

The least you can do is to Uninstall all updates from them, clear cache then DISABLE them.

I tried several times doing this and the difference on battery is Night and Day (Atleast for me)

I just re-enabled them and sacrifice my battery life because i cant manage to look for alternative apps for them for i use them at work mainly and give messages to clients.

Facebook, whatsapp and Facebook messenger are actually baked in the s6. I have the international variant and these apps come pre installed .
The only solution you have right now is to get rooted. Install titanium backup and remove these apps from there

None of these are pre installed on my s6 here in uk

I don't think international phones are in the same boat as the US carriers when it comes to bloat.

Disabling these apps are pretty much the same as uninstalling them. When you disable them, they are no longer able to run any processes, the file size is under 60kb (most of the time 0kb), and you wouldn't get any extra memory if you were able to delete it as it's in the system partition of the memory.

I just disabled Facebook and Instagram and replaced them with the webapp. So far battery life has seen a small boost. Had to keep messenger though for the push notifications.

People if you buy a phone for so much money, why do you disable apps and use the Web version of them?

I understand the battery paranoia, but it just doesn't seem right if you keep disabling a bunch of apps you'd like to use now and then, just to save on battery. Especially when you're buying a phone that costs so much

I concur. I have my hopes high for the Marshmallow update to solve the RAM and battery concerns. Here's hoping doze can make a difference.

You could do it with browser as long as you check regularly.

I am in the US and it came on my 925F (EU version) unlocked and it was there I have never had facebook on my phones. But the kicker is I could not find it in the app manager under the name facebook. What I found was the name the little green android man and 2 apps.: com.facebook.appmanager and somthing else that i easily deleted. but com.facebook.appmanager cleared data cleared cash clear defaults uninstalled updates disable option appears but greyed out. I can assure you that it is not a carrier thing I have unlocked phone with no sim in.

Hi, I just saw an article online talking about removing FB from androids and it improving the phone's battery, life so I looked up how to do it but since I have the newer phones it doesn't let me so I followed your advice and disabled/uninstalled the updates. But i wanted to know what phone you had when you posted the comment to see if it would affect my phone too.
(I have the note 5)
