Deleting Mail on Phone also deletes on Webmail Server?

S20 Ultra. When deleting emails on the phone it deletes emails on the webmail server. How can I stop this deletion from the webmail server when deleting emails on the phone?

My iPad nor my old HTC 10 did not delete emails from the server. Is there a way stop the deletions from the webmail server with my S20 Ultra? TIA!

To partially answer my own question, the problem appears to be that the Google Gmail App will only access an IMAP server; and when emails are deleted on the phone, they also get deleted on the server.

The solution is to use POP access, which is apparently not available in the Gmail App. I set up one of my accounts in Microsoft Outlook, and it does not delete server emails when deleting on the phone.

Anyone have a suggestion for an even better email app that I can set up with POP? Is the Samsung Email App better than Gmail? TIA!

Almost all of the will work with pop mail. But you answered your own main question, anything setup using imap will delete on the server as well.

Is there a particular reason you want to have emails locally saved on your device? POP3 is a really old and outdated protocol that doesn't allow for duplication of your email folder structure, and physically downloading entire emails to your device can chew up storage quickly. Using IMAP saves space because it's essentially syncing with the web server.

but i think what the poster is saying is that they want to delete mails from the phone device, which would free up storage and still leave them on the server for later review. so POP3 would work.

I understand that, but with IMAP, you're not downloading entire emails. My understanding is that it's only email headers initially, and when you select an email you'll see the whole thing -- but that email isn't permanently downloaded to the phone.

Perhaps so. But when it is deleted from the phone, it also gets deleted on the mail server; and that is unacceptable. POP3 is the way to go for me. Ymmv.
