Dell Streak Question

I had a client ask me about the Dell Streak today. I have not heard much positive or negative about it. Does anyone have one? Are they any good?

Also, they sent me a Web Chat conversation where the Dell Rep said that the Streak is shipping with Froyo. Is this true or is it 1.6?

Dell Streak is pretty cool... I have one, great screen, produces beautiful colors. I like mine and use it daily, even tho I have a DroidX

It's shipping with 1.6, the Dell rep you spoke to is misinformed. It'll be upgraded to FroYo later this year apparently, but as of right now, it's 1.6 out of the box.

That's kinda what I thought. I had not heard about an update and just sort of figured it was another case of a misinformed rep.

I'm curious... do you use it as a phone or as a small tablet?

I dont have active service on it so i use it to pretty much browse the web, eread or check forums/rss feeds.. im actually typing my response on it right now..

From what I know it's a GSM device and is going to be sold by Best Buy Mobile for AT&T. So it probably wouldn't come to Sprint, maybe T-Mobile.

they'll start shipping it with Froyo in a couple of weeks. Best Buy is going to be the exclusive retailer for it. For the existing Streaks, Dell is about to release an update to Froyo. as a matter if fact, they promised this for last Monday, but failed to actually release it. nobody seems to know what's going on.

even with 1.6 it's a pretty neat device - I like mine a lot.

Currently the Phone is on 1.6 and has it limits because of it, And so far there have been a lot of broken promises from Dell about updates. Hopefully since Best buy is releasing the phone too, there will be aftermarket support products. Search for these products now, as of last month there were not many products available. Hopefully Best buy also has insurance for these phones as there is no one who will sell insurance for the phone including AT&T. The will give you a lessor phone if it breaks NOT the same phone!

You would think with the phone being out as long as it has there would be better support for the product. I think Dell basically dropped the ball when they released this phone.

Currently in the states the only way you can get a Dell Streak is thru Dell Direct. That most likely why there is no support forum here yet.

Yes you can get the outside version (2.1-2.2) if you are willing to forgo any support from Dell.

I didn't mean they ordered it through Dell.com, they were invited by the Dell executives for a luncheon, Dell's CIO and other head honchos.. their Streaks were handed to them directly by Dell executives during a brunch meeting.
