I just want to say I am heartbroken because I loved loved my Infuse. However, I had to take it back because of the speakerphone and other issues. During the course of having the device it would:

1. Not turn off on it's on. Meaning, I could be on a speakerphone and while talking the screen would go black. Well, the proper behavior is the phone would be triggered to turn back on when the call is done. However, mine wouldn't. I would have to press the power button and then end the call. Is this normal behavior?

2. Everyone could hear me well, however people sounded muffled to me. I could be talking to someone then all of a sudden they would sound robotic, cut in and out, and garbled. This devastated me the most.

3. Aesthetics - While I loved the messenger app, etc,. I could not get over the black blackground white text of the calendar. It was HORRID!!!! Also, I could not stand the overly cartoonish icon backgrounds.

In the scheme of things I loooooooooved that phone and the GPS was superb. Now, I have the Inspire and I am miserable. It is slow, the GPS NEVER locks and it feels like a boy next to the man Infuse.

I'm still within my 30 days and am seriously considering taken this Inspire back. Oh! People keep scaring me saying that Samsung is never going to update their software.

Please help me and advise (will be posting on Android Central and XDA for maximum response). Thank you --- Ang:'(

OH, how could you? :) Go get you another one, it could had been you had a defective unit. I took mine back after talking to AT&T for non-reponsive WiFi and they gave me another one. I could not have anything else, this thing is a beast. Good luck choosing...

Well, you seem to have two distinct reasons for taking the phone back...

1. Your unit was defective.
2. You "couldn't stand" some aspects of the UI.

Problem 1 can be solved. Problem 2 can't really be solved but you can work around it with apps. If your primary reason for returning was because your device was defective, then I'd say give it another try. FWIW, I do think Samsung/AT&T will continue to support this phone with new versions of TouchWiz and Android being available for download in the not too distant future.

so what's the deal on the screen going black in the middle of a phone call? Is that normal behavior or should I return mine? If it's normal, it's a brain dead design decision.

Still, the phone is too, too sexy to give up. ;)

A lot of phones, including the iPhone do this so that you don't hit buttons with the side of your face (something that was a constant problem with the Storms which didn't have this feature). I'm not sure about needing to hit the power button to end the call as I haven't noticed having to do that.

The infuse has a sensor near the ear speaker to make the screen dim out when your on a call. Thats so the screen doesnt stay on constantly the whole time your on the phone. A lot of phones have that feature. But as soon as you pull it away from your head, it lights back up. Totally normal.

I think some of y'all might not be understanding his issue. He's not talking about the screen blacking out, as a result of the handset being positioned next to his head. This is happening while he is using the speakerphone. I realty can't tell you if my screen wakes back up, when the call ends because I never finish a call with the device on speaker. I only use load speaker, momentarily, during a call when I have to do something.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing because I was stuck between these two devices and you've made me feel like I made the right choice :-)

I can say that if you're using the term "miserable" you really need to take the Inspire back and get anythingelse :-(

Nearly all aspects of the UI are customizable with barely any work. I absolutely hated the stock UI, but i downloaded GO Launcher EX and now my phone looks stunning. Not to mention nearly every stock function of Android has multiple 3rd party apps to replace it to customize it to the experience you want.

Is there a replacement for the phone app,you know, the thing you actually used to make a phone call? (It must be an app of some sort, right?)

Yes, this is exactly it. As a matter of fact, it just happened twice a few minutes ago. Recieved a call, put it on speaker and held the phone about a foot from my face. Screen went black twice and had to press the power button to get it back on.

Is this normal? Seems a bit weird to me.

(I know about the sensor, I don't know if my old iphone had one, but it had it's own problem - a lot of times my ear would hit the "Record new greeting" button in the middle of a call.)

(And is there some way to quote two posts in a reply?)
