Developer Edition - Available April 19th

Why didn't UPS leave the package? I did a chat with UPS support this morning and they confirmed that my shipment didn't have signature required so they should just leave it, no?
UPS didn't leave my package either. It could be because I stay in an apartment. I got the 'The customer was not available on the 1st attempt. A 2nd attempt will be made.' message.

I'll be picking up the package, from the customer center, in the evening.

:/ hoping they leave mine. I work nights and am home now but will be asleep when they show up.

Some times they will leave your package at the door if you stick a note outside saying something like 'Dear UPS/Fedex, please leave my package at the door because I will be unavailable to receive it. - guinnkevinr". Maybe they won't leave the package if it requires a signature, but you can just sign the UPS missed-delivery notice and stick it back up on your door after their first attempt. So, thety'll have the signature too when they make the second attempt.

i've been in the "picking" stage since friday night, said should ship yesterday, still have not received notification it has shipped yet :(

You might be out of luck. HTC website says sold out. I had to go to pick one up at AT&T this morning because I can't wait another 2-4 weeks.

i saw what it says, mine was ordered well before that, well before it went back "in stock" after it was sold out initially.

Man, if you are on AT&T just go get one from them. You can unlock, root and flash just like a developer model. And as soon as the developer model gets any updates from HTC, they will be on XDA to flash. Anyone who is interested in this stuff that brought an AT&T model will be afforded the same benefits as the developer model due to the responsive developer community.

it costs me an extra $50 to get through AT&T, no tax through letstalk, if the difference was less i'd consider getting from AT&T

Do you guys think it's better to activate my 32gb unlocked One with a Tmo sim or AT&T? I'm only asking coz I don't want any features disabled by the carrier.

I activated with a Simple Mobile SIM I had (t-mobile MVNO) because allegedly I'm in a refarmed 1900mhz area, but I'm only getting EDGE speeds. Soon as I run out my credit, I'm just going to add a line to my AT&T plan.

So make sure you're in a refarmed or LTE area else you're speeds will be miserable -- or go with AT&T.

Noob, rooting question. If I want to root my AT&T One all I need to do is go throughthe HTC Dev site right? Anything else needed? I'd love to be able to flash the STOCK HTC updates on my device. Heck, HTC just released a update for the camera but us poor saps gotta wait.

I'm interested in this as well, though totally inexperienced with the process and any downsides. I just want the pure, stock version that comes on the developer edition and be able to get updates directly from HTC. Not interested 3rd party ROMs. Not willing to go through the hassle though if I have to rely on 3rd party sites like XDA every time something comes out. Just want to be able to hit "update" on the phone and go.

From the little that I know. I think once the device is rooted, you can flash any "ROM" and usually HTC will release the "image" onto their site and you can then just download it. At least that's what i've read but i'm not sure exactly.

Not entirely correct. Root did not mean you can flash roms unless you have a way around the locked bootloader. Root gives you access to the file system and the phone properties so you can add mods.

The HTC Dev site provides the procedure for unlocking the bootloader. Root can be obtained without unlocking but that requires a dev to find an exploit. So to just make it easy, users just unlock the bootloader then root. So what I did and many others is go the HTC Dev site and follow the instructions to unlock the bootloader. Once unlocked you can follow the instructions in either one of the below threads to obtain root. One is an all in one toolkit that does everything for you and the other is the manual way of doing it. I would suggest reading the manual one just so you are familiar with the process in the event there isn't a toolkit available for your device or the toolkit isn't working for you. 3 steps: unlock, flash recovery, flash root. The hardest part for most seems to be getting the HTC drivers installed LOL.

Toolkit:

Manual:

I believe the way to get the updates directly from HTC is to flash the stock developr ROM. Once that is done then your phone is like the developer phone. Everything the OEM releases an update it will be posted for users to flash and it also is used for other custom ROMs. So if you don't flash the developer ROM now, as soon as they get an update, it will be posted. In either event, you'll have to flash now, or flash later LOL. But get the developer version if you don't want to do this. But the majority of people that want the developer version are those that do this. To each it's own though.

Same thing happened to me, only getting EDGE speeds. Going to bring it to ATT at lunch time.
