Developer Question

I am planning on going with new Nexus basically to downsize - I do not use my keyboard and always said I would do this if possible. So size is important. And yes, I know there will be other "newer and faster" ones, but I do love the current setup and screen I have, just not the thickness nor keyboard.

The problem is I love my rooted and rommed Epic, and use many of those apps and features.

Note to developers - will any of you be working on root process or roms for this phone?
Are any of these portable from other Nexus devices? I know we have a few Nexus apps in various roms.
And yes, I know I'm on Froyo and this will be Gingerbread, which with the wonderful developers we have will appear on the Epic despite Sprint and Samsung!!

So does anyone have anything to pipe in before I make the jump?? Its down to size vs functionality.

Just an FYI

the Sprint nexus S is a Dev phone that will more than likely will be easily rooted using the current Nexus S unlock commands. also wimax, cdma, and anything else that relates to android on a cdma nexus S phone will now be available to download in googles public repo's.

Would that mean that apps that require root, lets say Wireless Tether, Set CPU, or other programs/apps that I currently use that require root, load without having to root it?

If so, that is perfect. Obviously coming from Sprint, I am not aware of how this works, having depended completely upon developers to customize.

No you would still need to be rooted to use those apps. However rooting is going to be so easy it shouldn't bother anyone. Just a matter of loading up the bootloader and using the command line "fastboot oem unlock" install a new recovery image and superuser then your good to go.

I googled that, saw Redmond Pie's instructions on using cmd prompt and entry.
If that is it, piece of cake. I have gone through SO much more on other phones, finally able to use easier methods on Samsung Epic (thanks to developers) but so many were a pain, didn't work, etc. And early users always
pay the highest price figuring it out!!

There are just a few things I don't want to give up.
