Device Insurance Question

I have the device protection insurance with Verizon and I just noticed yesterday that the back of my phone is cracked. The local ubreakifix offers that repair for the same price as a cracked screen and my cracked screen deductible is pretty low. I talked with someone at the Verizon store this weekend and, according to them, that damage would require a refurbished phone which is about 10 times the cost for the deductible. At that cost I will just get a new phone. My first question is, has anyone submitted this type of claim and received the repair? Second, could I submit the claim and if Verizon decides my only option is a refurbished phone, can I cancel the claim?
