Device Management Update?????

Do you have to be rooted to make all this happen?

I did a stock install with root I found over on XDA and now when I check for updates my phone is "up to date". And with an "official" ICS kernel with stock I should now be able to accept future OTAs with no problem.

Yes. That's Google Gesture Search. It's a great app. The radio update & removal of local search was all that update seemed to do.

I finally relented and updated my GS3. I also installed Google Gesture Search. If there are other work arounds and other OS platforms have universal search, what is the point?

If you are having issues with an app like AC Forums after the update, un-install the app and re-install it. I was initially getting a server access error that would not allow me login.

I'm getting the same thing on Tapatalk for the AC forum. My other forums are fine, AC has a "request function does not exist" message and the forum will not load. I removed the AC forum & reloaded it & I still get the error.

Did you try reloading Tapatalk and AC Forums apps both?

I posted a solo post & it was moved to the proper forum. Seems tapa updated, the forum updated, then tapa updated again. It was suggested to clear tapa's cache. It did the trick. I reloaded the forum and all is well. Got caught between updates. AC was the only forum that was misbehaving on tapa.

jcp006,
Did you reinstall the google search apk? Before I do the ATT update I want to make sure this works.

Nope. I did the update, mainly so that the notification would keep popping up. I downloaded Google Gesture Search from the Play Store as a workaround.

Seemed a bit more work to save to the sd card, disable security settings, install the apk again. I did not feel comfortable enough to do it. I was afraid that I might mess it up.

I thought all we had to do was copy the apk to a folder on the sd card, install the att update, and then just reinstall the copy?

I believe that you have to disable a setting to reload the apk file.

I just did the update, then reinstalled the Google search apk. It brought back local search but as soon as I restarted the phone it was gone again. What did I do wrong?

In Settings, under Security, under Device Administration, I believe that you have to enable the Unknown Sources feature. Then, reload the apk file.

I did have that checked off to allow installation of non market app from unknown sources. After I reinstalled the apk I got back local search. The problem is when I restart the phone it reverts back to the ATT updated apk removing local search. How can I get it to stay permanently?
