Android Central Question

I'm kind of new to this forum and I'm having troubles finding the thread that I initiated: I copied and pasted my original issue below:

Lately I've been having troubles establishing a connection between my Android Auto on My Samsung Galaxy S7 (running android 8.0.0, AA version 3.4.582534). I am frequently getting a "device not supported" error message and no connection is made. Sometimes it does connect, but lately it has been failing to connect more often than not. I can get it to work sometimes by disconnecting the USB cable and re-connecting, sometime I can get it to work after re-starting the phone. The head unit is a Kenwood Excelon installed about 10 months ago. It is basically unusable at this point, I am updating Android Auto every time the Play store says an update is available, it is an unstable mess , so frustrating! Does anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas?

Someone on this forum suggested it might be the cable. I tried a different cable that I had lying around and lo and behold, it seems to have fixed the problem! This was about a week ago. I bought a new braided 3 foot long USB cable and it was working fine until today. I'm getting the "device not supported error message on the car stereo. Even more oddly, the display on my phone will say "Android Auto Connected to your car". I have disconnected the phone from the unit (and I'm in my house) and it still says that the Android Auto app is still connected to my car. I just reset my phone and now it no longer says that the app is connected to my car. I can't believe that a brand new cable would fail in a matter of days. In fact, I tried connecting with a spare 12 inch cable that I had in my car and got the same device not supported error message. I suspect it is the phone, the Kenwood head software has not changed. Anybody have any ideas?

Register and you won't have that problem - you can look for your own previous posts.

USB is made for mp3 players - and the mp3s have to be in the root folder. It's not really made for connecting the phone to the head unit. The head unit should have Bluetooth capability - use it. (You didn't mention the model number, but the entire Excelon line appears to have BT. And it should work fine - my little "car radio" Kenwood does.)

It could be the USB connector in the phone. The new cable exerted different torque on it, so the connection made for a while, but now that the cable isn't so new, the connector isn't making the connection again.

Again - pair them with Bluetooth and forget the headache, (Plug the phone into an accessory adapter if you need it charging in the car - the Kenwood doesn't provide much charge.)
