Opening Device Maintenance, I've noticed that under Device Security there's an option to activate a McAfee powered anti-malware.

Should I use it? or is it just another useless bloatware that's running in the background and consumes memory?

I've yet to find any Anti-Malware app that blocks or even warns you about adware nor apps that contain intrusive popup ad capabilities. I spoke to them and they do not consider unwanted popup ads to be malware.

Malware includes Trojans and other things that aren't viruses (they don't replicate themselves to other phones - but they might be sending your contacts - or your passwords - to the developer), so you should have at least one malware app running, as well as one anti-virus app running. But a popup preventer? You can set your browser up to prevent that. (Adware that pops up when you're not using a browser may or may not show up as malware, but it usually comes from visiting infected sites or opening infected emails - so don't do those things.)

Coming from a blackberry, AV and scanning software is not used and if installed can cause problems.

I have assumed that KNOX of Samsung phones makes them equivalent for consumers. Is that correct.
